Text for my performance at the Electronic Literature Organization’s traditional MLA off-site reading, held at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Flaxman Library on Jan. 10, originated in calls for work posted for the events I was participating in during the convention weekend.

The messages

[1] Lightning talks on the death of Flash e-lit, the study and preservation of Flash works, and the rise in electronic literature of HTML5, Javascript, and apps. 300-word abstracts by 15 March 2013; Mark Sample (msample1@gmu.edu).

[2] Carrying on an MLA tradition, the Electronic Literature Organization is sponsoring an off-site reading of new works of digitally born literature.  Priority will be given to work of high literary value and unforgettable, earth-shattering presentations.  Artists new to electronic literature are especially encouraged to submit!

To participate, please send your proposals (200 words or less) and brief bio (150 words or less) for 10-minute presentations/performance.  Sorry, no remote presentations via Skype or other video conferencing software.

were duplicated three times each, and then each segment was subject to spell-check editing/composition treatment using 3, 4, and 5 letter blocks as input to the program (i.e., the original four segments, above, were expanded 3X, each with different parameters).

A reading of the transcreated text was accompanied by projection of a simple but dizzying Flash animation I made using pictures taken at Chicago’s famous “bean” during a previous visit.
