Technical Documentation Specialist

Essential Duties

  • Write new, and update existing, customer-facing technical documentation (e.g., How-Tos, Quick Starts, Tutorials) for Infragistics products
  • Edit/proofread documentation to ensure it complies with writing standards, conventions and style
  • Use Innovasys’ Help Studio and Document! X to author help files
  • Research design specs and interview relevant subject-matter experts (e.g., developers, QA)
  •  Plan/estimate projects
  • Mentor Junior and Intermediate Technical Documentation Specialists on the team
  • Provide input on improving documentation, styles, and processes
  • Manage documentation projects

Knowledge/Experience/Skills

  • BA or equivalent education in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field
  • At least 4 to 5 years of experience as a Technical Writer
  • High-level understanding of Java Web technologies
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle
  • Self-starting and motivated team player willing to do whatever it takes to succeed
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and juggle multiple projects
  • Experience creating documentation plans and estimates
  • Experience using help authoring system to develop documentation
  • Basic experience with HTML coding
  • Strong technical aptitude
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent researching and interviewing skills
  • Basic experience with C#/VB coding and/or .NET Framework is a plus
  • Experience writing API and programmer documentation
  • Experience using screen capturing software (e.g., SnagIt)

Network Storage Technical Writer in Parsippany

The Technical Writer shall support us in translating technical information into user manuals, guides, white papers, publications, website and training materials. He/She must be creative and energetic. The Technical Writer must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and have the ability to work independently, as well as with a team. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical writing and editing skills along with exceptional storage networking, Linux, desktop publishing and web development skills.

Knowledge of all Microsoft applications including Word, PowerPoint, and FrontPage are required along with knowledge of Adobe PageMaker, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat.

The candidate will have good organizational skills and have the ability to multi task effectively in a fast-paced environment and the ability to perform under pressure and learn new concepts quickly.

The Technical Writer must communicate effectively with members of the Marketing, Sales, Software Development and Technical Support teams, along with the Administration department within the company.

Proposal and Presentation Specialist

Leading human resources consulting firm seeks full-time Proposal and Presentation Specialist. This highly visible position will interact with business developers and top management in developing proposals and presentations. Job reports to Vice President, New Business and is based in Woodcliff Lake, NJ. Periodic visits to Stamford, CT may be required. Some telecommuting is possible.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Working under limited direction and tight deadlines, the successful candidate will support the sales force in responding to customer requests for proposals (RFPs). This may include:

  • Coordinating the proposal process from beginning to end
  • Participating in the development of proposal strategy
  • Responding to RFP questions using existing material and, when necessary, drafting new content based on input from subject matter experts
  • Tailoring boilerplate sales presentations to address customer requirements
  • Facilitating draft reviews via conference call, and incorporating feedback into proposals and presentations as appropriate
  • Ensuring that proposals and presentations are well-formatted and meet the highest standards of editorial quality
    Assisting in the ongoing maintenance of a proposal knowledgebase
  • Responding to ad hoc requests to develop, edit, and/or format material in support of sales calls

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Liberal Arts, plus 3-5 years of related work experience, is required. At least 1 year of writing and editing experience in the private sector, preferably with a sales or marketing orientation, is also required. Background in human resources and/or career management is a plus.

The Proposal Writer will enhance the sales process for Our client¹s Products and Solutions by responding to RFPs/RFIs (Requests for Proposal or Information). The individual will ensure that a comprehensive proposal is generated which provides sufficient detail to be responsive to customer business and technical requirements, that our client solution is clearly positioned in the context of the prospects¹ business requirements and that the response is well executed in format, language and content. In addition, this individual will ensure compliance with appropriate commercial provisions.
The Proposal Writer will work closely with management of Professional Services, Sales, Product Marketing and Pre-Sales Consultants. The Proposal Writer must (1) manage multiple and complex proposals concurrently; (2) understand our client¹s technology; and (3) understand the relationship between our client¹s solutions and business issues. Responses must be produced in a timely manner. A credible background is required in structuring/managing significant IT consulting engagements.

Duties Include:

Responding to RFPs and RFIs and structuring proposals as required by working collaboratively with Sales, Professional Services and Marketing to ensure that proposals include appropriate levels of technical detail with respect to our client¹s products and services; planning, arranging and managing production and submission of the proposal; managing administrative aspects of proposal development:

  • Developing the proposal outline and writing plan
  • Coordinating assignment of proposal team members and monitoring the proposal development process
  • Logging RFP/RFI data and producing weekly and monthly status reports
  • Assisting Partners with Responses
  • Assisting in the development of Response FAQs which can be provided to Sales and Partners

Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. required; advanced degree desirable
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in proposal preparation including contracting, product application, and implementation issues
  • Minimum of 3 years of job experience required in Information Technology, Sales, Business Development, Proposal Development, and Contracting
  • Expert on Microsoft Office
  • Ability to learn Our client¹s product line and to envision, document, and communicate solutions
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and proposal development skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Capable of prioritizing multiple and concurrent projects
