UCS Policies -- Hardware Maintenance
Hardware maintenance for most Sun, Silicon Graphics, and Compaq equipment
ss provided by a service contract that Computing Services Division maintains
with an outside provider (currently Maintech). Faculty can check if equipment
owned by them is currently under maintenance by contacting the following UCS
staff: Steve Keeton (keeton@njit.edu), or Wenping Yang
(wenping@oak.njit.edu).
Things to be aware of:
- To report hardware problems:
- If University Computing Systems (UCS) manages your equipment, send mail
to sys@oak.njit.edu
- Otherwise, contact the Computing Helpdesk at 973.596.2900, or
http://help.njit.edu.
- According to the service contract, the response time for workstations
can be as long as 7 days (for campus-wide servers, response time
is 4 hours).
- If your equipment is still under the manufacturer's warranty, report
hardware problems in the same manner as above. Usually, the manufacturer will
mail the replacement parts to NJIT, for installation by NJIT personnel; it
may take several days for such parts to reach NJIT.
- If hardware is not under warranty and not covered by the service contract,
neither UCS nor the Computing Services Division has any responsibility for
the repair of said hardware.
