UCS Policies -- Software Requests
Commercial Software
University Computing Systems (UCS) can only recommend the purchase commercial software
that :
- has functionality significantly different from software already installed
- faculty states will have long-term (many years) use -- UCS will monitor
the use of the software and discontinue support if the software
get inadequate usage
- is available to all users (i.e., not for private use, or restricted
to a certain group)
- is budgeted
To request purchase of commercial software, send mail to sys@oak.njit.edu, with
the following information:
- Name(s) and department(s) of requesting faculty member(s), and email address
of contact person
- Name of software, vendor contact information (URL, emaill address, phone number, etc.)
- Initial cost of software and annual maintenance
- Unix/Linux platform(s) on which software is to run (hardware and operating system)
- Date by which software should be operational -- allow 4 weeks lead time
If installation of the requested software is feasible, the request will be forwarded
to the IST financial administrator for consideration.
Free Software
To request installation of free software, send mail to sys@oak.njit.edu, with
the following information:
- Name(s) and department(s) of requesting faculty member(s), and email address
of contact person
- URL from which the software can be retrieved
- Unix/Linux platform(s) on which software is to run (hardware and operating system)
- Date by which software should be operational - allow 2 weeks lead time
