The AFS distributed filesystem is the primary academic computing environment at NJIT. Services provided by AFS include a wide spectrum of application, programming, and utility software, user home directories, research and project directories, user and other pages served from web.njit.edu and other Web servers, and MySQL databases.

Users most often access their AFS account by logging in at the public-access computers afs1.njit.edu - afs35.njit.edu, osl1.njit.edu-osl29.njit.edu, or via the "H" and/or "J" drive on Windows computers.

In order to access their home directory, and other parts of AFS which they are authorized to access, the user must first authenticate to AFS.
