1. AFS passwords are used on AFS machines which are UNIX machines that require a login name and a passowrd. Reset passwords to your UCID through afspassword.njit.edu Option1 for an AFS machine ******* afs10.njit.edu is such (you can replace 10 by a number up to around 30) All afs10.njit.edu are aliases to Option 2 ******** afsconnect1.njit.edu or afsconnect2.njit.edu So you can connect to them directly as an alternative. From outside NJIT, you must use ssh (secure shell). Ssh programs are available from NJIT at ist.njit.edu (then Services/Software and follow links) One is the Secure Shell Option 3 ******** If you are inside NJIT (or outside NJIT but you use VPN) you can also connect to sunlab1.njit.edu (1 can be replaced by any number up to 30 or so) Conclusion, - Whether you are using Option 1,2,3 you are connected to an AFS machine named afsconnect1 or afsconnect2 (for OPTIONS 1,2) or sunlab.... for OPTION 3. 2. For setting up a web-page web.njit.edu has information on AFS etc. For setting up a personal web-page you can also go to ist.njit.edu and through Services there is a Personal web page link Or by going directly to http://ist.njit.edu/webhosting/index.php 3. After you create your Web-page and you can view the web-page then and only then do you fill the form to tell us where to go and also view your web-page and see that the steps of Option 1 have been fulfilled. 4. Using the form we need a URL. This is the URL TO YOUR OWN WEB-PAGE as specified in the assignment We do not need a LINK to OUR OWN (cs 485) web-page! ----- HELPFUL LINKS a. UCID account creation http://ist.njit.edu/accounts/index.php Click on the { (more info)} link under the { University Computing ID (UCID)} red-ink highlighted paragraph. b. AFS account creation http://ist.njit.edu/accounts/index.php and click on the {\tt (more info)} under Major Computing Environments $\rightarrow$ Andrew File System (AFS). Note that students who are assigned a UCID are also ordinarily assigned an AFS account as well. Therefore it is most likely that you have been assigned an AFS account as soon as you obtained a UCID account. If your UCID password however does not work for the AFS account, it might be possible to correct this by trying the AFS password reset step outlined below. c. AFS password reset. http://afspassword.njit.edu/ and click one of the three options available under {\tt Password Reset}. To complete this step you should know your UCID login name and its associated password. (I personally prefer the second option that resets all passwords to the UCID password.) d.
