Homework 1: Biography and Communication Infrastructure

Due Date:

Saturday, January 22, 2005

Goal:

The goal is for your team to get to know you better. This is also an opportunity to set up the communications infrastructure for the course, which includes our WebBoard system and general email forwarding.

Checklist:

  1. ( ) I logged into the course WebBoard (Part 1)
  2. ( ) I have emailed Professor Bieber (Part 2)
  3. ( ) I have posted my short bio on my team's private conference on WebBoard (Part 3)
  4. ( ) I have set up the Administration, "Q&A" and my team conferences on WebBoard to forward to my email (Part 4)
  5. ( ) I have gotten a UCID (Part 5)
  6. ( ) I have ensured (double-checked) that my NJIT email forwards to the email account that I check (Part 5)

What to Do:

Part 1: Getting up on WebBoard

Follow the WebBoard information sheet to log into WebBoard.

Part 2: Please email me

Please send me a brief email message (bieber@oak.njit.edu) with the email address I should use for you, should I ever need to contact you in-between classes.

Use the following subject line in your email: "CIS677 - Hello from XXX - Team YYY" where XXX is your name and YYY is your team's name. 


For the other parts, you will need to wait for me to add you to your team's private conference.


Part 3: Your Biography

In your team's private conference on WebBoard, post a short biographical sketch about yourself.

*** Please include your name in the "Topic" of your WebBoard entry!

In your entry, include:

  1. your name
  2. the name we actually should call you (i.e., your nickname)
  3. your university (NJIT, Rutgers or NTU)
  4. year, program and major
  5. your employer and any job experience you've had regarding information systems and information technology, if any
  6. What do you expect to get out of this course? What are your hopes and what are your fears?
  7. include a favorite anecdote or joke if you wish

*** Please include your name in the "Topic" of your WebBoard entry!

Part 4: Set up WebBoard email forwarding

On WebBoard, set up email forwarding of your team's conference, the Administrative conference and the General Course Question & Answer conferences to an email account that you check frequently. You can optionally set up email forwarding of other conferences as well.

Part 5: Set up your UCID and mail forwarding
