Resumes

There is no single "best format" for resumes but there are some general rules (see below). Some of you have a lot of job experience, some of you don't. If you don't, use filler. Most of you should be able to get all of your experience on one page. If you want to use two pages, you need to fill them completely. The resume should be centered on the page and fill most of it.

The structure should be like this:

Objective (optional, focused on the employer's needs, not your own)

Education (just college, omit high school unless unique)

Work Experience (in reverse chronological order - most recent first)

Languages (if you are multi-lingual)

Optional Material: (only use if unique or if you need filler)

  • Honors
  • Skills
  • Key Courses
  • Interests

Here are some samples:

Sample 1 Sample 2 Sample 3
Sample 4 Sample 5 Sample 6

Other Considerations: remember, older people do not see as well as younger people, so make the font big enough to read. The layout should be pleasing, using bolding and indentation to guide the eye. There can be NO NO NO spelling, punctuation or grammar errors - employers love to pick that sort of thing apart.
