Wired news is a trendy, high-tech magazine that caters to a younger audience. The color and layout are unusual with continuous changes, giving you a sense of living on the edge. The catchy phrases encourage the reader and links to items such as ‘gadgets and gizmos’ keep you up-to-date on new technology. I saw the printed magazine at the pediatrician’s office and the unusual cover and articles caught my attention. I was thinking it might interest my pre-teen son.

Women and sports are gaining popularity. The Women’s World Cup and the United States’ success have encouraged girls to play soccer and compete at a higher level. With the United States being one of the strongest teams in women’s soccer, it comes close to home for young girls. Other women’s sports have also flourished as a result. The FIFA World Cup site was particularly impressive with the sheer volume of photos and articles that date back to 1991. From color to organization, this site inspires soccer enthusiasts by reliving moments. Those with a passion for sports and a love for action photos can appreciate the concentration and intensity of each moment. The site is also extremely organized and is updated frequently.

 Does MS NBC carry everything you’re looking for? Maybe so, but finding it may be another story. While the site has some nice features such as drop downs from the left frame, others who visit less frequently may find this feature cumbersome. The overall look and feel displays several styles so getting comfortable with the look and feel takes time. There also seems to be 2 distinct styles: graphics and plain text. The bulleted lists used on the lower half of each page are plain text and look out of place with the balance of the page. There is also considerable color variation without blending causing a choppy look and feel.

If cooking is your passion or you’re trying to learn the ropes, busy cooks will show you what you need to know. These video clips include step-by-step instructions on how to master a technique. There are explanations along with photos to make cooking enjoyable. You can not only visualize the end result but also see how each step progresses. There are many times when being able to see each step progress is essential. One example that comes to mind is chocolate truffles. The consistency of the chocolate for instance is essential followed by incorporating the cream right down to the consistency after refrigeration.  Having struggled with chocolate truffles many years ago and trying to determine which step was in error for a consistency that wasn’t manageable makes me appreciate video clips. You can easily stop and start those critical steps.

Are these magazines really originals and could some be over 60 years old? This site was pretty neat. Being able to look at individual issues of Life magazine covers, highlight events that have taken place for close to a century. The variation of style and simply going from black and white to color, show how technology has progressed. Those covers that transition from black and white to colo,r require a careful look to determine the difference.
