WARNING to Off Campus Students:

Even if you have a fast Internet connection, no problems on the network, and few other students using AFS at the same time, it can be sheer torture to do complex tasks from off campus.

For example, if you are using an X-windows emulator to run NetBeans on AFS over a Virtual Private Network, there is so much software overhead and potential for problems that performance is likely to be minimal.

You will probably find it easier to develop and test on your home computer, then upload your work to AFS and save VPN access for testing that it works.

On campus students will get better performance using the AFS lab on the second floor of GITC across from my office instead of trying to access AFS from one of the PC labs.
