The Constitution of the Hellenic Student Association of NJIT

 

 

 

 

Article I

 

The name of this organization shall be the Hellenic Student Association of NJIT.

 

 

 

Article II

 

The purpose of the Hellenic Student Association of NJIT shall be to enrich NJIT students’ academic experience with the values and ideals of Greek culture, as well as promote fellowship among NJIT community members who share the Greek heritage by organizing cultural, social and educational activities.

 

 

 

Article III

 

Section 1:

Voting membership is open to all full-time undergraduate students of NJIT who are active members of this organization. Associative membership is open to other members of the NJIT community.

Section 2:

In order to become a member of this organization, an applicant must fill out an application and attend three consecutive meetings.

Section 3:

A member will be considered inactive, and thus ineligible to vote or hold office, if they miss three consecutive meetings. Active status may be regained by attendance at two consecutive meetings.

Section 4:

Attendance by a majority of the active voting members shall constitute a quorum.

Section 5:

Meetings shall be held at least every two weeks.

 


Article IV

 

Section 1:

The right to hold office is restricted to active voting members of this organization who have a minimum 2.2 cumulative grade point average.

Section 2:

The term of office for all officers shall run from the meeting following the conclusion of Spring Week to the same time next year.

Section 3:

The officers of this organization shall consist of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Section 4:

A.                The duties of the President shall be to call and preside over all meetings and to represent this organization to the NJIT community.

B.                The duties of the Vice-President shall be to assume the President’s duties in his absence, to attend Student Senate Cabinet meetings, and to perform all duties assigned by the President.

C.                The duties of the Secretary shall be to keep an accurate record of business and maintain an accurate business at meetings and to maintain an accurate membership list.

D.               The duties of the Treasurer shall be to handle all financial matters.

 

 

 

Article V

 

Section 1:

Nominations for officers shall take place at the first meeting held on or after March 15.

Section 2:

Elections for officers shall take place at the second meeting held on or after March 15. Nominations and elections may take place at the same meeting if agreed to by a two-thirds vote. All elections are to be conducted by secret ballot. A majority is required for election. If no candidate receives a majority, the candidate with the least number of votes shall be eliminated and a subsequent ballot conducted until one candidate receives a majority.

 


Article VI

 

A vacancy in any officer position shall be filled by a special election conducted in accordance with Article V.

 

 

 

Article VII

 

An officer may be impeached by two-thirds of the active voting members of the organization.

 

 

 

Article VIII

 

All business of this organization shall be conducted in accordance with Robert’s Rules of Order except as otherwise stated in this constitution.

 

 

 

Article IX

 

This document may be amended by two-thirds vote of the active voting membership. Amendments shall take effect upon approval of the Student Senate unless a later time was specified at the time of adoption.
