NJ Section PACE:

Manpower Issues

On June 12, 2002, your Professional Activities Committee host a discussion on "Manpower Issues."

About the Talk

High on the list of subjects is unemployment and the displacement of American citizens by foreign workers imported under the H-1B legislation. This year the legislation increased the number of H-1B workers to about 200,000 while citizens have been disregarded as "Over Qualified." (See http://www.calcpa.org/californiacpa/articles/2001/01.02.html to read about an applicant refused when they found him to be a US citizen.)

The PACE meeting is open to discuss our Members' professional needs.  PACE provides IEEE Members with the opportunity to meet, address, discuss and perhaps improve the professional aspects of the engineering profession. Members should take advantage of the opportunity to have a place and time to meet with their associates to discuss their Profession.

While checking with PACE Leaders I found high on the list of IEE-USA goals this year is "Employment Assistance and Career Development due to the worsening economy."  More on these projects can be found at www.ieeeusa.org

Any suggestions may be emailed to mailto:rtax@bellatlantic.net.  Richard F. Tax

Welcome!

You do not have to be a member of the IEEE to attend.  Bring your friends.

Time:  6:30 to 8:30 PM, Wednesday, June 12, 2002.

NJ Consultants' Network:

Why Can't I Sell My Services?

On Thursday June 27th, 2002, the IEEE Consultants' Network of Northern NJ (CNNNJ) will present an outstanding seminar to help you market your consulting business.

About the Meeting

Selling Skills for the non-selling professionals are critical.  The question is "How can I develop my clientele when I've never had any serious sales training or practice?" You may be pleased to discover that your lack of sales experience might be your greatest strength! Find out how to take the expertise you already have and use it to grow your business.  Learn how to meet, engage, qualify and communicate your value without using a single selling skill.  If you are an information gatherer, able to evaluate data to define opportunity or problem solve, then you have the potential to be a powerhouse, without having to pretend you've had a "personality change" operation.

If the statements below sound familiar, this seminar is for you:

* I wear a dozen hats at work -how am I supposed to find time to sell myself?

* I waste too much time writing proposals that produce nothing.

* It's difficult getting past the gatekeepers and even to initiate the phone call.

* Prospects lie and mislead me.

* When it is time to commit, prospects hide.

* I give away free consulting to prove my expertise -but it doesn't get the client.

* I struggle with objections and stalls, unable to handle them.

* Technically, I've got it, but I have weak selling and human relations skills.

* I want to act like a professional, but I feel like a beggar when prospecting.
