My name is Karen Martinez and I was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. My parents moved from El Salvador to Union City, New Jersey where I have lived my whole life. They have sacrificed a lot in order to give my sister and me a better life. I am currently attending New Jersey Institute of Technology for college and I’m majoring in Chemical Engineering. I am also planning to minor in Computer Science. My parents are part of my motivation as well as my sister. I would like to make them proud someday by graduating and pursuing my masters and PhD. I also want to be a role model for my little sister; she is going to attend high school in September. I attended and graduated from Union Hill High School. I believe high school helped define part of who I am and it helped me choose a path to follow for college. My ultimate dream is to work for NASA someday, as well as to do some of my own research whether it is on computers or in a laboratory.
