About

Kevin Ly currently resides in West Orange, New Jersey but has also lived in Germany and Canada. He graduated from West Orange High School in June of 2010 and entered New Jersey Institute of Technology as a biology major. Kevin is a member of the College of Science and Liberal Arts and a proud scholar of the the Albert Dorman Honors College.

His interests as a student include research, design, business, biology and applied physics. As a member of the first cohort of the Interdisciplinary Design Studio program, and the first cohort of the Provost's Undergraduate Research Program, he is able to pursue his interests by researching and developing a prototype that can easily monitor glucose levels of diabetic patients regularly and accurately without the use of lancets and painful fingerpricking. He was recently a finalist and overall winner of the Newark Innovation Innovation Acceleration Challenge hosted by the New Jersey Innovation Acceleration Center. He was awarded an opportunity to participate in the New Jersey Innovation Acceleration Center's Accelerator Program to further develop business plans for Geneo, the company responsible for research and development of the non invasive glucose meter.

Besides his studies at NJIT, Kevin shows leadership and community service. He is currently a resident assistant for NJIT Residence Life and a teaching assistant for Freshman Seminar where he gets to share his experiences and mentor the freshman of the Honors College adapt to college life. He has also led the organization of the Newark's first TEDx event, TEDxNJIT where he hoped to improve student understanding of a variety of different topics including entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainability. He is now organizing NJIT's third TEDx event set to be held in the Fall of 2012.

In addition to organizing campus-wide events, he is the NJIT chapter president of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and a social media ambassador for the national office, the vice president of programming for Delta Epsilon Iota Academic Honor Society and the communication chair for Omicron Delta Kappa. He is also an active member of the Innovation Acceleration Club, Biology Society, Pre-Health Society, and a student ambassador for the Recruitment Committee of the Albert Dorman Honors College.

When he's not working with students in school, he also volunteers at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation and has done volunteer work for the local nonprofit theatre Oskar Schindler Performing Arts Center, both in his home town of West Orange. He is also working with non profit organizations and individuals, designing websites and improving their precense on the web through social media to improve personal branding.

Outside of school, Kevin enjoys studying meteorology and photography often combining the two. He is the founder and owner of KnowMe, a graphic design service that helps students and young adults improve personal branding through simple things such as using business cards or putting up websites such as this one. He also likes to help tutor students as well as make tutorial videos for the world to learn.
