§ Research Interests

  • Klashner is interested in using the architectural metaphor as a communication tool. He uses software architecture styles to study multi-stakeholder software integration projects associated with large, complex, socio-technical systems that depend heavily on the flow of information to maintain productivity levels. While conducting field research, he began investigating the increased use of information systems in the rapidly evolving electric power domain. He discovered how constraints emerged and were translated into system requirements, specifications, and finally implementation efforts. To understand and facilitate complex integration efforts, he built a generally applicable software architecture tool suite in Java. The tool is an analysis aide for designers who must factor in complex systemic relationships when considering domain specific constraints. His future research will leverage the tool suite and the underlying socio-technical theory to design evolvable architectures and explore resource acquisition in dynamic environments such as E-Commerce.
