Dear CS 341 eLearning Student:
Welcome to the eLearning section of CS 341, Foundations of Computer Science II. As a student in an eLearning course, you will not be attending traditional “face to face” classes but instead will watch all the lectures on a collection of video podcasts to be played on your computer. The videos contain slides with voiceovers covering the same material that I teach in a face-to-face version of CS 341. All of the modules are available as free video podcasts from the NJIT iTunes page. You will need iTunes installed on your computer, and you must start up iTunes through the NJIT iTunes webpage to access the lecture videos. (For more details on using iTunes for CS 341, click here.) Also, I will use moodle to post announcements and to answer general questions about the course material.
The course webpage has all of the course materials. The syllabus provides the schedule for viewing the lectures, homework assignments, exams, and the programming assignments. Also, the syllabus explains how the exams will be administered. Do not fall behind! Although you do not turn in the homework assignments (except for assignment EL), it is extremely important that you complete each assignment in a timely manner because this is the only way you will learn the material. The programming assignments will take some time to complete, so be sure to start it long before the due date.
If you need to contact me for any personal reasons (e.g., inquiries about your performance in the class), you may reach me by e-mail at marvin@njit.edu . Be sure to put CS341EL in the subject line of your message. You can also reach me by telephone at (973) 596-3398. General questions should be posted on moodle.
Again, I welcome you to CS 341. After reading this welcome letter and the syllabus, you should immediately complete homework assignment EL, which will count for 10% of your course grade and must be completed by the due date specified on the syllabus.
Sincerely,
Marvin Nakayama
