My Fellow Math Students,
Please email Dr. Goodman at goodman@njit.edu if you wish to take part in any
of the following events.
***NOTE***: Email him immediately! (within the next day or two). He
must mail
the names by this Friday, which means they must be submitted before then.
All Tests will be administered at NJIT. Also, keep in mind that these
are
highly competitive contests...so, your participation is viewed positively by
the NJIT Math Dept. and any other future graduate school, job, etc.
Upcoming Competitions:
-Virginia Tech Regional-
Oct. 23, 2004 Saturday, 8:30am-11:00am
-Michigan Autumn Take Home Test-
Saturday, November 6, 2004. The exam begins at 9:30 a.m. (EST) and ends at
12:30 p.m.
-Putnam Competition-
If you couldn't make it to the other two exams, you definitely shouldn't
miss
this one.
Saturday, December 4, 2004
Eastern
10:00 am - 1:00pm
3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Anyone who gets even one question correct is ranked in the top 50% of 4,000
students! Younger students are also strongly encouraged to
participate.
Perhaps you'll get an idea of what is expected and then you can successfully
compete again in following years.
Corny Math Joke:
I was debating leaving this out, since this email is more about official
business...but I couldn't allow such a calamity.
What do you call an angle that got hit by a truck?
A wrecked-angle. --Pythagoras
Upcoming Meetings:
This Thursday at the Student Center, Room 220, there will be practice for
the
VT Regional competition. 6:00pm to 7:00pm.
Local Competition:
Major mania is on Oct.23,2004
from 11:00am to 3:15pm (immediately
following the VT Regional Test...so if you're there for the exam, stick
around
for two hours afterwards for this). This is a good thing to
participate in
since we have a good chance of winning. Plus, it is a team event, so
whoever
participates can claim they "Won First Place at an NJIT Poster Competition,
Major Mania, for their presentation of Humans vs. Computers". Let me
know
in
the next day or so if you can compete.
--Kunj
