Mission Statement

Image of buildings.

In today’s world, the development for environmentally friendly building techniques and materials is greatly needed. Certain innovative companies and individuals have developed techniques and materials that have much less impact on the environment than traditional construction types and materials.

Types of construction techniques that have less impact on the construction site and surrounding environment are Deconstruction, using “green” building materials, and following existing construction guidance institutions like the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) system.

Deconstruction is the process of selectively and systematically disassembling buildings that would otherwise be demolished to generate a supply of materials suitable for reuse in the construction or rehabilitation of other structures. Using salvaged materials from previous sites cuts down on the amount of refuse going into landfills as well as helps diminish the need for using raw materials.

“Green” buildings materials is sometimes a vague concept and word that is overused. The word “green” is used here to mean buildings materials that are:

  1. Products made from environmentally attractive materials.
  2. Products that are green because of chemicals or substances that are not there.
  3. Products that reduce environmental impacts during construction, renovation, or demolition.
  4. Products that reduce environmental impacts of building operation.
  5. Products that contribute to a safe, healthy indoor environment.
The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System® is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. By using the LEED system as a guide, you have access to precedent cases that showcase ways to build and design environmentally friendly and instances of responsible architecture.
LEED was created to:
  1. Define "green building" by establishing a common standard of measurement.
  2. Promote integrated, whole-building design practices.
  3. Recognize environmental leadership in the building industry.
  4. Stimulate green competition.
  5. Raise consumer awareness of green building benefits.
  6. Transform the building market.
