Beneath the eave

the birdfeeder

swinging in swirls

of driven snow —

bluejays, sparrows

and cardinals

gather as if

a single flock,

in the white air

flying to the

hoard of seeds, its

scarce sustenance —

blue, brown and red

birds daring each

other for a

tenuous perch.
