me: Hi max
mjs48: Hi blessing
Sent at 6:44 PM on Tuesday
me: So lets talk about TQM
mjs48: I thought we going to talk about RFID/
me: Yes that is fine
mjs48: As you know I work for Metro-North Railroad, and we use RFID in many different areas of the company.
Sent at 6:47 PM on Tuesday
me: Good to know that .that will make the talk practical .So what do you use RFID for?
Sent at 6:48 PM on Tuesday
Metro-North has a very large
service area and
The RFID helps the storeroom manager keep track of the location of parts in the storeroom and also where they are being used within their service area.

me: That is so good .As I learnt from our E-book, RFID can store information without any error. Also human intervention is not require. So can you say that so far your company has not gotten any error since they have been using RFID?
Sent at 6:54 PM on Tuesday
mjs48: That is supposed to be the plan. But sometimes there are situations where items are shipped to the wrong location. This might be because of the way the purchase was set up in the system. The inventory report that is required at the end of the month alerts everyone to shipping errors.
I think the main reason that RFID is used is not only for tracking and reporting purposes but also to reduce shrinkage.

me: I don’t understand can you please explain?
Sent at 6:58 PM on Tuesday
mjs48: At these storerooms all the orders for supplies spare parts, new equipment such computers, blackberry gets delivered to a certain location. When Metro-North decides to upgrade the office equipment this is a huge shipment. The only way to make sure that some don't get taken is to make sure that they are tagged on delivery. This way no can steal them. Shrinkage is inventory loss due to theft and/or damage.

mjs48: Mostly theft.
me: Hum! Sound Interesting. I Have Plan to Include RFID tag during the manufacturing phase of my product (Vehicles), for the purpose of tracking. How do you want to use RFID in your TQM Company?
mjs48: Good question.
I never really thought about a practical application in my project. How do you plan on using it with yours?
Sent at 7:04 PM on Tuesday
me: I just to be sure that for every vehicle that my company produce RFID tag will be attached to every material that is used in production, so incase of any problem with any vehicle we know the source of the bad part
Sent at 7:08 PM on Tuesday
mjs48: Yes that is a very application of RFID technology. This is probably the most effective way to use this technology. I think this will work for my company too.
Sent at 7:10 PM on Tuesday
me: Yes it will.RFID has so many advantages like zero error real time information, some can operate at a distance as far as 300 ft radius, no human intervention ......
Sent at 7:13 PM on Tuesday
mjs48: Yes, that is true. Because my project involves large construction equipment I would probably have to use active RFID in order to enhance the distance with finished product, but use passive RFID on the production floor.
Sent at 7:15 PM on Tuesday
Me: That's fine. Nice chatting with you today. Talk some other time
Sent at 7:16 PM on Tuesday
You ended the video chat with mjs48 at 7:17 PM.
mjs48: It was fun chatting with you too. Good Luck with your classes.......
