Abstract:

The choice of college and field of study is a tedious and overwhelming task, especially at the graduate level.  It is one of the most important life decisions since it will affect employment, family life, and finances.  At InfoPoint our goal is to aid our clients in making informed decisions, by providing information that covers almost every aspect of the problem at hand.  We are your one-stop-shop for information.

Introduction and Overview:

Our purpose is to ease the pressure of selecting the right college and program of study by providing a concise listing of information pertaining not only to academics, but also to life in the surrounding area.  InfoPoint will provide services that enable the prospective student to compare the schools and programs of their choice based on various criteria such as cost and ranking.  We recognize that education is not solely an academic venture; prospective students have concerns about life after admission.  To this end, we also offer information regarding housing, shopping, emergency services and recreation.   Currently, our focus is on the New York / New Jersey area.  However, we hope to expand to include the entire United States of America and eventually go global.  

Risk/Problem Domain Characterization:

·        The amount of data and its heterogeneous nature may prove problematic during database design.

·        Licensing restrictions and intellectual property rights may hamper data gathering.

·        Strategic Alliances may be difficult to obtain

·    Maintaining the site with up to date information may be problematic.
