The following shows how good a numerical solution can be. Depicted is the magnitude of the Electric Field at two horizontal planes cutting through a dielectric sphere. The numerical solution comes from a program that solves the 2nd-kind Fredholm integral equation that governs the scattering of plane waves off dielectric targets.
