El the Ecologist

Masters Student & Computational Marine Ecologist

Welcome to my website! I'm Rachel, a Computational Marine Ecologist and a graduate student at New Jersey Institute of Technology, studying Biology. I am a part of NJIT's Urban Ecology Lab and was previously an intern in the NAGT/USGS Cooperative Summer Fellowship Program. I'm currently working on my thesis, which centers on using infrared sensors to classify insects based on their wingbeat frequency. I have a strong background in computer science and enjoy creative writing in my free time. I love science communication and citizen/community science. Within my internship with USGS I participated alongside Grand Canyon Youth in a youth trip, as the lead scientist, engaging teens in our field collection. You can find more about my background and research here on this site as well as a blog of my journey in graduate school and the world of science.
