Welcome to PTC 605-851

There is no required text for this course. The course readings and podcasts will be available online. A list of suggested books for further reading will be provided during the course.

Moodle will be used as the course management system and provide access to all assignments, readings, links, discussion and grades. Your UCID/password is used to enter the course.

Students will need 24/7 access to a computer and the Internet.

Though students may use commercial software (such as PhotoShop, Dreamweaver, Adobe Acrobat etc.) for course assignments, I have done my best to encourage the use of free and open source software and online applications throughout the course. There will be no formal instruction in the use of these software packages as that is considered part of student preparedness for this course. A digital camera and scanner to generate images for some assignments will be useful.

Students should have installed the software offered by NJIT such as Microsoft Office Suite and Visio. Information on software is at http://ist.njit.edu/software/

iTunes needs to be installed on your computer in order to download and play the enhanced "lecture" podcast files. NJIT is an iTunes U school and all podcasts for this course can be accessed using the student login at itunes.njit.edu

Each week of the semester will include some writing generally on your course blog (reactions, reviews, online discussion responses, proposals, etc.) and work on a design exercise. Students in the MSPTC degree program or graduate certificate are required to update their professional portfolio begun in PTC 601 as a requirement of this course.

All students should complete the online course evaluation at the end of this course.
