Current Projects

  • The Writing Initiative at Passaic County Community College
    I am the director of this 5 year, $2.5 million Initiative to improve writing achievement and program completion rates by integrating critical thinking, information literacy and technology into college-level writing. The Writing Initiative at PCCCC will involve developing twenty distinct Writing-Intensive, General Education courses across the curriculum. The courses will be supported by an instructional development component that will collaborate with faculty in developing writing for their courses.
  • Poets Online is an workshop and online magazine of poetry that I started in 1998. It has a large archive of poetry writing prompts and poems from those prompts. It is used by many poets and teachers as a site of inspiration.

Portfolio

  • iTunes U at NJIT - During my time as Manager of Instructional Technology at NJIT, we launched our instance of iTunes U. NJIT was one of the first group of 16 universities to be hosted in Apple's iTunes store and offer free educational podcasts and materials.
  • Moodle at NJIT - I began the first use of the Moodle open source learning management syatem at NJIT in 2005. The university moved all of its courses from WebCT and other legacy LMS in 2009.

Collaborations

The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Initiative - This $4.5 million grant at PCCC will continue the work with faculty to strengthen STEM courses, coordinate professional development activities, and lead curricular alignment and mapping activities with K-12 school districts.
