News…
- Congratulations to Denise on passing her qualifying exam.
- New to the lab: Anthony Brusa and Andrew Mashintonio have joined the lab. Anthony is starting his second year, and Andrew his first, in the PhD program. They are therefore in the mentoring phase.
- New to the lab: Denise Hewitt is a graduate student in the Ecology and Evolution program of Rutgers New Brunswick. She is about to take her qualifying exam, and will be joining the Russell lab for her dissertation research on the effect of field margin management strategies on bee visitation rates in the fields themselves.
- Sarah has recorded a new-to-the-US bee genus at Liberty State Park.
- Gareth and Jessica are presenters at ESA this year in Albuquerque (see below).
- New research grant award to GJR: Understanding the Dynamic Connections Among Stewardship, Land Cover, and Ecosystem Services in New York City's Urban Forest. From NSF.
- Congratulations to Jessica on passing her dissertation proposal defense.
- New research grant award to GJR: Climate change and Species Ranges — Southwest USA. This award will fund Jessica for the 2009–2010 academic year.
- Congratulations to Sarah on passing her qualifying exam.
- New research grant award to GJR: Group Undergraduate Biology and Mathematics Training Program at NJIT. This is an extension of the award which has brought some talented undergraduates into the lab (such as Abraham Rosales — see "Recently published" below).
