EXPERIENCE

New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, NJ - 1992 –
Senior Science/Engineering Reference Librarian
· Supervises and trains junior reference librarians and interns in using printed and electronic library resources
· Develops self-paced information literacy tutorials and teaches formal classes to train students to search databases in the science and engineering disciplines.
· Performs general reference services for library users.
· Devises new or improved services to fill local information needs
· Maintains the library's departmental liaison program with professors and students in chemistry, biology, chemical engineering, civil engineering, environmental science and biomedical engineering.  Shapes the collection in those areas by selecting current books, periodicals and databases in those subjects.
· Teaches Freshman Seminar and coordinates library tours offered in that program.
· Serves on the Library Committee on Web Initiatives and Digital Projects.

Long Island University Palmer School of Library and Information Science - Fall 1992 Adjunct Professor - Taught LIS 604 - Science and Technology Sources and Services, a course that examines the background, trends, terminology and notable publications in the physical and biological sciences, engineering and technology.

St. John's University, Jamaica, NY - 1990 - 1992
Associate Professor and Science Librarian
· Supervised the operation of the Science Department of 1.5 FTE librarians and 2.5 FTE clerks to insure that students, faculty and other library users are able to fully meet the academic goals of the university.
· Planned and developed policies, standards and guidelines for the provision, analysis and improvement of Science Department services.
· Assisted with the planning and implementation of the merging and moving of the Science Periodicals with the General Periodicals collection.
· Enhanced reference services by introducing two CD-ROM based indexes for public searching.
 
 

New York Public Library Science and Technology Division - 1983 - 1990.

Librarian III - Coordinator of Online Services (1987 - 1990).
· Searched DIALOG, Wilsonline and STN International on a regular basis to provide enhanced reference service.  Assisted Chief of the division in choosing CD-ROM products for public searching.
· Compiled specialized periodicals lists using the ASKSAM and WordPerfect software packages.
· Assisted with the automation of the production and subscription control of New Technical Books and assisted the editor in choosing books to be annotated
· Served on the library wide Committee on Training and Staff Development.
· Served on the Online Services Committee, which developed policies for bibliographic searching for the Research Library

Librarian III - Coordinator of Collection Development (1986 -1987).
· Assigned subject and language responsibilities to the reference staff and reviewed their selection decisions.
· Served on a library wide committee to evaluate collection strengths and weaknesses.

Librarian II - Senior Reference Librarian (1984 - 1986).
· Responded to advanced and specialized reference inquiries.  Selected chemistry books and periodicals for the collection.
· Supervised the stack operation and hired pages and clerical assistants.

Librarian I - General Reference Librarian (1983 - 1984).
· Responded to requests for information by library patrons, phone calls, and letters.  Performed online searches using the DIALOG system.
· Wrote descriptive annotations for New Technical Books, a selective list of current books in the pure and applied physical sciences.

Schering-Plough Corporation, Bloomfield, NJ. (1979 - 1982)
Library Information Scientist –
· Provided an information link with laboratory, medical and regulatory personnel to support research programs of and projects by searching the biomedical and chemical literature by using online bibliographic databases offered by DIALOG or the National Library of Medicine.
· Indexed and abstracted articles for inclusion in SCHOLAR, an online database of published articles citing Schering products.
