TBP Outreach Program (Starting on September 28th):

Our organization looks for candidates with exceptional academic performance and strong moral character. As the Engineering Honors Society, we would like to help Middle and High School students to better understand Math and Science concepts.

Current and prospective TBP members who are willing to do community service by helping teenagers, please, contact Sandra Lazo at SL99@njit.edu. It will be rewarding to see how the students will improve their analytical skills with your help.

You can help them in your free time during the week. The possible schools you could be going to are:

Ridge street middle school

Hawkin street middle school.

East side middle school

Barringer Success academy

Barringer High school

In the application process, at least 5 hours of community service are required. If you are applying to the organization, helping these students will help you to fulfill this requirement. Non TBP members who are willing to do community service at the schools are welcomed.

Bus tickets will be provided if required.

The students will start coming to NJIT in mid-October. We will give a presentation about careers in Engineering once they start coming.

NCE Day:

Message from Dr. Rockland, our chapter advisor:

As the former Associate Dean of NCE, and now the chair of the Engineering Technology Department and the Faculty Advisor for Tau Beta Pi, I coordinate each semester a visit for approximately 600 HS students on campus to learn more about engineering and technology as a career.  This program is called NCE Career Day, and is a purely volunteer program, and many faculty, administrative people and students volunteer.  For more information, please refer to the link: http://engineering.njit.edu/careerday/

This event will be held on Friday December 4th. 2009.  I am looking for students who would be willing to volunteer for this event.

1.       The 8 – 9:45 AM time slot
2.       The 9 – 12:30 PM time slot (the tour guides)
3.       The 11:45 – 1:15 PM time slot.

The tour guide time slot is something that we really need (since we try to have 2-3 guides per group, and there are six groups).  Any help is really appreciated, and you will be getting a free NCE shirt and there are free refreshments, as well as my gratitude (I know, you would rather have the shirt).

If any of you are interested, please email both myself and Arminta Skipper (skipper@njit.edu ), who is in the Dean's office.   Thank you
