New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, NJ Jan 2005-Present Research Assistantship Digital libraries grant and recommendation engines. Evaluated alternatives and wrote papers on the general recommendation engine being developed. Developed several different software and web based applications to carry out research experiments. Performed pilot studies and aided in the evaluation of 3 different recommender technologies (Knowledge based, content based, and collaborative filtering). Wrote several pieces of software to provide recommendations. Worked on my research in the field of information retrieval and personalized text mining.
New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, NJ Jan 2004-May 2004 Research Internship: Evaluated hardware and software for ActiveCampus / ActiveClass research project. Developed and ported applications relating to this project. Co-authored academic papers. Researched the feasibility of several potential solutions.
Foster Wheeler Power Group, Inc., Clinton, NJ (Cooperative Education, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, NJ) January 2001-January 2004 Database Administrator, Web Developer, and Software Engineer: Utilized Microsoft Access and SQL Server 7.0 and 2000 to create a system (Maintenance Parts Proposal Tracking System) to track proposals and print assorted documents for a $25 million per year department. Enabled department members to increase revenue by $4 million per year through the use of this system and others while eliminating waste. Developed a system to store and retrieve technical papers written by all Foster Wheeler employees. Evaluated potential software programs and their merit for use in the department as well as other departments. Aided in the Windows 2000/Office 2000 migration. Installed programs and troubleshot hardware and software difficulties. Helped to create an E-commerce system whereby customers can order parts directly over the web rather than going through a person in the department (http://refractorystore.fwc.com). Aided in the development of a website to track previous orders from customers and recommend the ordering of new parts based on those previous orders. Developed Java, Visual Basic, and Flash applications to increase the customer base. Installed, performed troubleshooting, and trained operators in the use of various programs, especially the Maintenance Parts Proposal Tracking System.
Compaq Financial Services, Murray Hill, NJ (Contracted by Accountemps, Livingston, NJ) May 2000-December 2000 Leasing Assistant: Utilized Access and Excel for various reconciliation. Used Excel to produce schedules for billing. Performed troubleshooting to resolve hardware and software problems. Trained operators in the use of various programs.
Prudential Insurance, Livingston, NJ (Contracted by Accountemps, Livingston, NJ) August 1998-May 2000 Marketing Consultant: Developed several different marketing reports through Access. Created reports and provided support for Microsoft-Excel based reporting environment. Installed, performed troubleshooting, and trained operators on the use of new programs.
