Demystifying
Density Lecture Series
As you will see on the links table below, there
are a total of 10 short lectures in the two-part series. The first
part (3 lectures) provides an Introduction
to Density: its definition, its history, and its
benefits. The second series (7 lectures) presents detailed examples
for a variety of Strategies
For Creating Higher Density Housing, organized by
housing type.
There are three components to each “lecture:” the
lecture itself – a streaming video that you can either watch
in real time or download and view later; a PowerPoint file containing
the slides presented in the lecture; and a .pdf file of the same
PowerPoint slides.
The Lectures
If you have a fast connection (DSL or cable modem) you can stream
the lectures directly from the web site by clicking on the “Lecture”
buttons. If you have a dial-up connection, it will probably be
better to download each lecture first and then view it from your
computer. You can do this by right-clicking on the “Lecture”
button and selecting the “save target as” option.
Once the lecture is saved you can watch it directly from your
computer.
Whether you stream the video directly from the web site or download
it and watch it later, you will need Windows Media Player to view
the lectures. Click
here to download a free version of Windows Media Player.
The PowerPoints
The PowerPoint slides used in each lecture can also be viewed
directly – by clicking the “PPT” button –
or downloaded to your computer by right-clicking the “PPT”
button and selecting the “Save Target As” option.
We encourage users to download the slides and use
them to create their own presentations to advocate for higher
density development. Be sure to read the notes at the bottom of
the slides for additional information.
The slides can be downloaded lecture-by-lecture or you can download
Introduction to Density and/or
Strategies for Creating Higher Density Housing all
at once by right-clicking the “PPT” button under each
of these headings and selecting the “Save Target As”
option.
The .pdf Files
The PowerPoint slides used in each lecture can also be viewed
as .pdf files by clicking the “PDF” button –
or downloaded to your computer by right-clicking the “PDF”
button and selecting the “Save Target As” option.
We encourage users to download the files, print them
out and use them to follow along with the lectures. This may be
especially useful in the Introduction to
Density section, where some of the slides in the lectures
may be to small to read easily.
Like the slides themselves, the .pdf versions can be downloaded
lecture-by-lecture, or you can download Introduction
to Density and/or
Strategies for Creating Higher Density Housing
all at once by right-clicking the “PDF” button under
each of these headings and selecting the “Save Target As”
option.
You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and/or download these
files. To obtain a free copy of the Reader, click
here.
The Zip Files
We have provided compressed or “Zipped” versions of
the presentations. If you want the videos, the pdf’s and
the PowerPoint presentations on your computer but don’t
want to download them all separately, you can download them as
a compressed file. You will need a zip utility on your computer
to open and view them.
