With powerful processors, large storage capacities and faster data connections to the Internet, today's mobile phones have evolved into an ubiquitous platform providing users with access to rich information that was only available with more powerful full-function computers a few years ago. One advantage of using one of today's mobile platform is that a service provider can take into account the physical location of the customer to optimize existing services, or provide new location-oriented services. In this talk, we present the de- sign and implementation of a novel system called SpotSmart. This system provides on-the-spot decision support to retail customers by actively querying, integrating information on product speci»cations, inventory availability, reviews and prices from various Web 2.0 sources, and aggregating them to help users decide what to buy and where to buy. We will also briefly discuss the challenges of designing such a system and how we address them in this talk
