Abstract

Business process modeling has usually focused on representing activities, their sequencing logic, and the roles that perform them. Only later are the bits of information needed to perform the activities documented. IBM Research has pioneered the concept of the "business entity" as a vehicle for holistic modeling of a business operation and the information it processes. This talk will describe the business entity concept and the benefits it brings to business process modeling, of which one of the most important is the acceleration of process implementation. The business entity concept and method will be illustrated with examples from client engagements.
