AT&T Labs Information Research: A Journey to Liberating Data

Dave Belanger

In 1996, AT&T Labs initiated an aggressive research program in Information Mining called the AT&T InfoLab. Since that time, the InfoLab has become an essential information mining resource, using 100s of terabytes of data to address problems ranging from network management to fraud. I will present an overview of what has been done in that effort, how we thing about the technology, and several of the lessons learned. This work includes software, data analysis, and information visualization aimed at the most effect use of large amounts of data.
