Barbara G. Koster is senior vice president and chief information officer at Prudential Financial. In this position, Koster oversees the use of information technology companywide, including the formulation of policies, establishment of standards and architectures and the development of guidelines and management practices. Previously, Koster served as chief information officer of Individual Life Insurance Systems where she was responsible for a wide range of operations including distribution technology, policy administration technology, customer relationship technology, service delivery technology, financial systems, information security, business continuation architecture and infrastructure. During this time, Koster was responsible for the launch of a revolutionary technology project called LaunchPad, which provided state-of-the-art laptops and a suite of software to Prudential’s field force. This initiative made Prudential unique in the financial services industry. With LaunchPad, Prudential’s field force has access to current product & customer information from anywhere at anytime, on a single technology platform. Prior to joining Prudential in 1995, Koster was employed with Chase Manhattan Bank in a variety of technology-related posts including vice president, Financial Systems, vice president of Information Services, and president of Chase Access Services. In 2006, Koster was named to Computerworld magazine’s list of "Premier IT Leaders.” She was also named as one of the top 20 Financial Management Technologists by the CIO Forum in 2003 and was selected one of the Elite Eight by Insurance & Technology magazine in 2001. Koster received the “Women In Science and Technology” award in 1999. She has been a featured speaker at dozens of national and international industry conferences. In addition, Koster is past chairman of the board of ACORD (a standards body for the life insurance industry), a member of the board of Pramerica Systems Ireland Ltd, a technology subsidiary of Prudential Financial based in Ireland and a Trustee for Liberty Science Center. Koster graduated from St. Francis College in Brooklyn, New York with a BS degree in Business Administration and AS degrees in Computer Technology and Accounting.
