Arati Baliga is a Ph.D student in the department of Computer Science at Rutgers University, New Jersey, expecting a January 2009 degree. She completed her Masters degree in Computer Science from NJIT in January 2001. Her research interests include system security, operating systems and distributed systems. While her dissertation research has focussed on operating system security, her research also spans other inter disciplinary areas such as covert systems and privacy issues in vehicular ad hoc networks. Recently, her work on a novel rootkit detection method for advanced kernel rootkits won the best student paper award at the Annual Computer Security and Applications Conference (ACSAC) 2008. She has six years of extensive industry experience in building application software and web based systems.
