Dr. Yufeng Shen is an Assistant Professor in Columbia Initiative in Systems Biology and Department of Biomedical Informatics. He received his Ph.D. in Computational Biology in 2007 from the Human Genome Sequencing Center at Baylor College of Medicine. He stayed there for a year, leading the analysis of the first personal genome (that of Dr. James D. Watson) produced by nextgeneration sequencing. Afterwards, he moved to Columbia University for a three-year postdoctoral training, working in computational genomics and genetics of drug adverse reactions. In July 2011, Dr. Shen joined the faculty in the Department of Biomedical Informatics and Initiative in Systems Biology at Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Shen’s research is at the interface between biology, statistics, and computer science. His group focuses on developing computational approaches to study genomes and genetics and applying them to map disease genes.
