Computer Science (CS) Department at NJIT : Facts

General Statistics (as of Fall 2025, or as otherwise stated)

8 degree programs (Fall 2023).
- BS in Computer Science, MS in Computer Science, PhD in Computer Science,
- MS in Cyber Security and Privacy,
- BS in Computing & Business (phased out), MS in Computing & Business (phased out),
- MS in Software Engineering,
- MS in Bioinformatics.
Also three double majors, two with Mathematical Sciences (CS & Comp. Mathematics, CS & Applied Mathematics), and one with Physics (CS & Applied Physics). The BS in Bioinformatics has been phased out; the MS in Data Science has moved to the newly established Data Science Department. The BS and MS in Computing and Business are being phased out.
Faculty size 34 tenured or tenure-track (T/TT) faculty in Fall 2025. 23 Lecturers, 1 Professor of Practice are listed separately below. (According to http://www.cra.org and the Taulbee survey for 2023-2024, the average T/TT-faculty size of a CS department is 36.8, the average number of Teaching Professors or other Instructors is 19.9, and the average number of non-tenured research faculty 3.3 for a total of 60.)

Retention rates - The College of Computing retention rate for 2024 to 2025 was 89%. The College of Computing retention rate for 2023 to 2024 was 90%. The College of Computing retention rate for 2022 to 2023 was 91%. The College of Computing retention rate for 2021 to 2022 was 89%. The College of Computing retention rate for 2020 to 2021 was 88% (or 87%). The College of Computing retention rate for 2019 to 2020 was 91%. The College of Computing retention rate for 2018 to 2019 was 90%. The College of Computing retention rate for 2017 to 2018 was 89%.
College Graduation rates (2013, 2014, and 2015) The 2019 Fall cohort (2019 to 2025) 6-year graduation rate for the College of Computing (YWCC) is 73%. The 2018 Fall cohort 6-year graduation rate for the College of Computing (YWCC) was 77%. The 2017 to 2023 graduation rates for the College of Computing (YWCC) was 72%. The 2016 to 2022 graduation rates for the College of Computing (YWCC) was 70%. The 2015 to 2021 graduation rates for the College of Computing (YWCC) was 73%. The 2014 to 2020 graduation rates for the College of Computing (YWCC) was 67%. The 2013 to 2019 graduation rates for the College of Computing (YWCC) was 65%. The 4-year graduation rate for YWCC are as follows: 2016 cohort at 53%, 2017 cohort at 53%, 2018 cohort at 57%, 2019 cohort at 52%, 2020 cohort at 51%, 2021 cohort at 65%.
SAT average scores (2013) - 622 (Math) and 544 (Verbal). SAT average scores in 2010: 610 (Math) and 546 (Verbal). (NJIT averages were 603 and 538 respectively in 2010.)
