- HW 3 Problem 1. To avoid unnecessary complications change the "at least n/3 times"
into "more than n/3 times" in the statement of this problem.
- HW 3 has been posted.
- Exam 2 is scheduled for Oct 20. Open textbook only. 2hrs for 350
points. Bring your own copy of the textbook; you are not allowed to borrow
a copy from a fellow student. Follow the guidelines of the Syllabus and read the
Syllabus carefully again. The exam material includes Chapters 1,2,3,4,6,7,9.1 (min and max),
10, and 16.3. Appendices A,B,C.1-C,3 which is Math 226 material was also covered/used/reviewed
in class; although we will not ask Appendix-specific questions you are expected to be
familiar with the material (eg. formulas for arithmetic/geometric progressions,
and graph/tree definitions). Use the posted homeworks,
and problem sets as guidance. Solutions for Homework 2 will be posted on Fri Oct 14.
- Typo HW2, Problem 2 It talks in the third sentence about DELETEMIN.
This is a typo; change it into EXTRACTMAX.
- Exam 1 Solutions in Section C4 of the protected area.

- HW 1 Solutions in Section C3 of the protected area.
- Exam 1 on Thu Sep 29. Based on PS1-3, HW1 and the corresponding material
of the textbook (Chapter 1-4).
- sortg.cc and Visual C++. You might need to change random() into rand() and
INT_MAX into RAND_MAX.
- Practice Problem Set 3 with solutions (Section C). It is out!
- Do you want to earn bonus points? Go to section B1.
- Practice Problem Set 2 with solutions (Section C).
- Practice Problem Set 1 with solutions (Section C). You gain experience by
doing these problems but no points. Practice before you look at the solutions.
- Homework 1. Homework 1 (worth 100 points) is available (Section B) and due
in three weeks (9/22).
- Programming Assignment are available online (Section B). Be
reminded that you need to collect
at least 80 out of the 250 points of the 5 programming assignments. This is equivalent to
roughly two assignments. PA1 is due in two weeks (9/15).
