A. Announcements

• Final Exam Statistics Average score is 243 out of 350. Median is 251. The maximum score was in the 320-330 area and the lowest score in the 120-140 area. Class average was 732 out of 1000.
• Office Hours (Tuesday May 6) Even if the University follows a Friday schedule today, I will still observe Tuesday's office hour schedule. For tomorrow Wednesday be noted that I won't be in my office from 9am-1pm because I will be attending a CS Department meeting, and between 3pm-4:30pm I will be reviewing Master's project proposals and reports.
• Next Week(May 12-16) I expect to grade the exams by Friday and I will report grades as soon as possible through the system either late Friday or most likely Monday. If you want to inspect your final exam you can do it 4-6pm on Monday (tentative time and day).
• Guidelines for Final Exam MAKE SURE THAT YOU SWITCH OFF ALL MOBILE DEVICES (CELL/MOBILE PHONES,COMPUTERS, DIGITAL PORTABLE DEVICES) before entering the EXAM ROOM. The EXAM is OPEN-TEXTBOOK only. You MAY bring a copy of the textbook (known as CLRS) in class. You may NOT bring any other material (notes, handouts, etc). The material that will be covered includes.

  Exam Conflict Resolution: The exam is a triple section exam

  1. Chapters 1,2,3, and 4.
  2. Appendices A, B, C (Math 226 material)
  3. Chapter 6,7,8,9,10,11,12 (but not section 12.4),13.
  4. Chapter 16 only section 16.3 that starts on page 385 of CLRS on Huffman codes.
  5. Chapter 21 (but not sections 21.3 and 21.4).
  6. Chapter 22 (but not proofs,and not section 22.5)
  7. Chapter 23 (emphasis on Section 23.2, proof of correctness optional) ; in addition introduction of Chapter 16 on greedy algorithms.
  8. Chapter 24 introduction and Section 24.3 but will not be in the EXAM.
  9. Chapter 25 introduction and section 25.2 but will not be in the EXAM.
  10. Chapter 34 introduction but will not be in the EXAM.
• Thu May 1 I will wrap up the course by discussing briefly NP completeness and hard problems in the first part of the lecture. In the remainder i'll answer questions on all topics. This class will not be in the final exam.
• Tue April 29 Today we will continue the graph algorithm discussion on spanning trees and shortest paths. There will be a course evaluation after 5:10pm.
• HW6 Solutions will become available late Tuesday/early Wednesday (April 29/30).
• HW5 Solutions have become available.
• Final Exam Date DO NOT FORGET THAT THE FINAL EXAM IS CUMULATIVE. ALL THE MATERIAL COVERED SINCE DAY ONE WILL BE IN THE EXAM. According to the Registrar's Web-page, the final exam is scheduled for
