The notice was derived from notes obtained after installing the faculty version of Matlab 2014a (64-bit edition) ( the latest version). 1/ The notes apply for an installation on a Windows 7 machine; some of you tried to install it on Windows 8 machine(s) and had problems with. Some of the steps below might help you in resolving some of these problems. 2/ Do not forget to obtain the Product key. 3/ Some of you reported problems with installing that version on a Windows 8 machine; If this problem persists, after following all the steps below including step 7 over step 6, install the 32-bit version or an earlier 64-bit version of Matlab. 4/ The first thing that will happen is that a 95MiB file will be downloaded Its name might be matlab_R2014a_win64.exe 5/ It will automatically unzip itself and then two things will happen - A visual C++ 2005 installation will start and then - the MATLAB icon will pop up to start the MATLAB installation. 6/ If for some reason you stop the installation, to resume from it DO NOT CLICK the setup icon/program at _temp_matlab_R2014a_win64\setup.exe 7/ If you have read carefully the note on the window that unzipped the matlab_R2014a_win64.exe file (step 5), YOU MUST CLICK on another setup program/icon _temp_matlab_R2014a_win64\bin\win64\setup.exe 8/ Therefore 6/ will not work, 7/ should. Note that in my case only steps 1-5 were performed; there was no need for Step 7. 9/ The 95MiB file is the installation program. Downloading all files might be slow. If you decide to download and install everything, it will be more that 2300MiB. The whole process might take an hour or so. Sep 11, 2014, 9:27am
