Dear All, In fall 2020 this course will be offered 'online'. This means (1) LMS canvas will be used along with a course web-page (see file 0Int332.txt @ canvas). Access to canvas: canvas.njit.edu [Use your myUCID credentials: login and password] (2) Instruction will be broadcast through Webex during registrar announced class hours. Preposted subjects (aka slides, notes, modules in PDF) will be used but the presentation will be in real-time and subject to real-time disruption or hiccups. Recordings will be captured (remind me!) by webex but might be low quality in terms of sound or viewing. Links to those Webex recording will be posted in canvas a few days after the class, if they are available. Access to webex : see file 2ndWebex.txt @ canvas Access to webex RECORDINGS: through canvas (3) Prerecordings (voiceovers) of the subjects would also be available through canvas (the physical location of those recordings is mediaspace.njit.edu). Those recording have been prepared using Kaltura, an NJIT provided piece of software. The prerecordings of a given subject might be split into one or more MODULES of approximate duration of 1-2hours. Access to Kaltura VOICEOVERS: through canvas (4) The course web-page (cwp from now on) will post documents in PDF and also source code in .tar format. http://www.cs.njit.edu/~alexg/courses/cs332/index.html (5) Exam taking will be in canvas accessed through ProctorU Review+. Canvas calls exams quizzes. Thus 'exam' and 'quiz' will be used interchangeably. Exam info: 3rdProcU.txt @ canvas [Use ProctorU credentials: login and password to 'connect' to ProctorU] [Use myUCID credentials: login and password to start exam at canvas] (6) 'Office' hours will be available on Webex Tue: 16:00-17:20 and Thu 16:00-17:20 [Webex] and also at NJIT (see Office Hour Link at course web-page) Tue: 13:00-14:20 [@NJIT facemask-gloves-required] All hours will be first-come-first-served. Sections A and B are publically available, section C requires course specific credentials available in canvas. [Announcements: Section A of course web-page] Canvas has its own Announcements section. I'll be using it to provide (text) files such as this one that contains sensitive information (Webex, credential info, etc). But for the rest i prefer a medium, the cwp, that does not require authentication and is easily accessible. [Handouts: Section B] It contains PDF documents including Handouts 0 : Course FAQ Handout 1 : Syllabus (also in 'html') Handout 2 : Computer Science Fundamentals Links to Linux tutorials or Linux tutorial web-page [Exam solutions, Subjects, Past sample exams, Midterm class performance, Exam statistics: Section C password protected] [Credentials for Section C access ] ***************************************** Login : cs332 Password : os2020fall ***************************************** [Exam solutions: Section C] I expect to post exam solutions in Section C but this might change. Usually they get posted after exams are released to you for your review. Exam cycle is 1-2weeks with the exception of the final that is shorter. All subjects are posted in PDF there. Past sample exams in PDF. DO not expect solutions. Midterm class performance one week before drop date ie. around 8th/9th week. Exam statistics become available after the grading of an exam. If you wander around you might be able to find a link to get 20pts of course credit (20pts out of 1000pts) by completing promptly the info indicated there. ******************************* 3. VERIFICATION OF PRESENCE This semester verification of presence will be run as a quiz named VoP. Don't get puzzled or agitated. Part of the 'quiz' process is that you download Handouts 0 and 1 from the course web-page and read them carefully. If you have any questions, you may send an email to the instructor (email address in Handouts 0 and 1) according to the protocol specified in Handout 0. As soon as your questions are resolved, go to canvas do the VoP quiz, and my grading will involve verifying also your presence. The 1pt you might receive for canvas to accept the creation of the quiz will not be for credit! The VoP quiz will open the day of first class and will stay open through the Friday of the second week of classes 5pm local (NJIT) time. ******************************* 4. GRADES and CANVAS and DUE DATES/TIMES Alhtough some grades will be posted in CANVAS eg for HW, maybe for Exams, ignore CANVAS aggregate totals and monitoring of grades. CANVAS has no idea what the course's grading scheme is. ***************************************************************** In CANVAS it is not possible (as of Aug 10, 2020) to SUBMIT late. ***************************************************************** There is only one time deadline for everything/anything and this is before noon time of the day indicated in the calendar of the syllabus (this is Handout 1).
