Past Announcements for Fall 2021

(11/24) (11/11) HW 5. NJIT Withdrawal Deadline extended. A reminder: HW 5 deviates from the usual cycle of an 8-day availability because of the Thanksgiving Day holiday of November 25. HW5 would become available on Nov 17 and cease to be available at noon time (canvas calls it 12PM) of December 2. The latter date (Dec 2) is reflected in the Syllabus Document 1 as the due date (see Calendar). Moreover, you might have been informed that the NJIT Withdrawal deadline has been extended to Nov 23 or so.

(11/09) Exam 2 and Midterm Class Performance Exam 2 has been graded. The exam will be released in canvas in late morning or early afternoon. Statistics are available in Canvas Announcements, along with a solution key. Use the solution key rather than the canvas grading response as the latter was erratic or is a bit confusing. Furthermore midterm class performance has been made available in canvas (based on HW1-4, Ex1-2).
(11/09) Availability of SA 7-8 SA-7 and SA-8 would be available through Nov 24. Act accordingly.
(11/04) HW4 graded solution key posted Read the problems carefully. I may be lenient in grading homeworks, but by the time exams are graded I expect YOU to correct your past errors and not repeat them!
(11/01) Exam 2 in one week Exam 2 is scheduled for Mon 8 Nov. Same setup as Exam 1. More info in the news item date 10/19.
(10/27) HW4 available In canvas. Due date in Document 0 (Syllabus) and its Calendar. Solutions for it would be made available prior to the exam of Nov 8.
(10/21) HW3 grading Note that those of you who got Version 2 of Question 16 in HW2, were manually graded to fix some synchronization problems in canvas. In the comment section you are going then to see a V2 for Version 2. The solutions has answers both for Version 2 and Version 1.

(10/19) HW 3 and HW4 and SA 3,4,5, and 6

(10/19) Exam 2 Exam 2 will be covering material from Subjects 3, 4, 5 and 6. This material maps to Chapters 3, 4, 9 and 10 of the designated textbook including the source code examples made available in Section C of the course web-page (which are also part of the exam material along with the self assessment exercises).
(10/5) Exam 1 Check Canvas/Announcements for statistics and solution key. Exam will be released on Friday at noon and would be available for two weeks (screenshots).
(10/4) Exam 1 and NJIT account issues A problem popped up on Friday re vaccinations and blocking of NJIT accounts. It seems to have re-popped up again TODAY. Double check that your NJIT my-UCID credentials WORK before coming to class. If they donot, contact IST including by calling 973-596-2900, to resolve this problem. At least one of you has resolved it very quickly through this method. If this does not work, go to the Dean of Students and the syllabus will then apply.
(9/30) Solution key HW2 It has been posted in Section C.
(9/30) Exam 1 Exam 1 is on this coming Monday 4 October. Rules as in Section C. Note the exam will have 3 areas for scratch space reported in canvas as Question 3, Question 6, and Question 9. All three are 0 pt questions. They will be ignored in grading. The last Question 12 is worth 1pt if you do as instructed. The remaining 8 questions are the OS questions that are worth points.
(9/27) Office room normalization and TA The emergency use of GITC 4325 ended on Sep 22. The instructor's office will be used for the remainder of the semester, unless NJIT declares an emergency.
(9/27) Practice test today A Practice test 1 with one question will be made available today. The set up is the one to be used for the exam next Monday Oct 4. It will become available per exam rules. Read those rules! Today in class utilize the seating arrangements (Canvas Announcements) I reiterate that exam accommodation requests must reach me by end of day today (5:30pm).
(9/21) Exam rules and procedure You may find info about the exam setup and procedure in section C.0 of the course web-page.
(9/20) Office hour room for Sep 20-Sep22 The alternative room, GITC 4325, will still be used. Do not show-up in my office (GITC 4213).
(9/17) HW1 grading, Canvas, and Solution key for HW1 By now you should be able to see the grades of HW1 in canvas, and HW1 will be open for viewing for 14 days. In addition to the canvas view of correct answers, a solution key was posted in section C of the course web-page.
(9/17) updated, (9/16) Exam Seating arrangements They will be posted in Canvas/Announcements before end of day Monday (thus the link in section C of the course web-page will not be utilized).
(9/9) Note on Canvas NJIT periodically maintains canvas at weird hours for example 2am to 4am in the morning. If you plan to work on a homework that time frame bear in mind that canvas might become unavailable. I am mentioning this because on Sep 16 they plan to do such maintenance of canvas. Do not get panicked at 3am! It happened before...
(9/9) Subject 1 update (one slide added around page 63/64) The updated version is in Section C of the course web -page along with the previous version. Canvas does not reflect this change. One slide added!
Verification of Presence All students who had a submission of the canvas Quiz through 9/12@noon ~~9/10@10:01 9/9@10:10 9/8@13:05 9/7@10:15 9/3@15:30~~ have been verified on 9/13@10am. Verification past Sunday per the protocol of the most recent email. Note that a new system is being utilized in Banner. I double check for everything, so I don't know how long it takes for you to be able to see the update.
Course Web Page The course web-page was unavailable sometime around 1pm yesterday Labor Day. This happens from time to time and usually lasts from 10m to 1h. Be patient. Everything is back to normal.

Provost Email and Syllabus Addendum An NJIT Provost email was received 8/31@12:07PM. It requires that certain language be added to the syllabus. This has become an addendum to the syllabus available through Section B of the Course Web Page and also as a separate announcement in Canvas.
First Week By now you should have received a Welcome note from me, the instructor. The email was sent to the (email) address of record that NJIT maintains for you. Note that NJIT requires mask-wearing irrespective of vaccination status while inside a classroom. Note that Monday 6 September is Labor Day and thus there are no office hours and there are no classes. Moreover on Wed 15 Sep NJIT follows a Monday schedule (Labor Day adjustment). Now the funny part! NJIT plans to change the carpet in my office but they have not done anything yet, yet they are about to start doing so (or so I was told). I have no information as of this writing. I will post more info as soon as it is available. I will be using GITC 4325 if my office is unavailable for the period Sep 1-Sep15! If you drop by my office and you see people doing funny things there and everything is in chaos or boxes, head to GITC 4325! I will be waiting for you there while office-less! Hopefully, they will be done by the 15th of Sep!
Canvas Activity There are four announcements in canvas associated with 4 Documents including Document 0 (Instruction delivery) and Document 1 (Syllabus). Section C of the course web-page (CWP) requires credentials available on the first page of Document 0. Go to Canvas, then to Modules, then to module BeforeFirstClass to make sense of this information. A Welcome email will be sent out one week before the start of the semester. Canvas might not be accessible by students before the start of the semester.
