Final Exam (Exam 3) grade availability (12/04)
After the exam you might be able to find out your exam 3 grade
by email or inspect the exam 3 paper. See the the final exam
information link below (dated 11/17).
-
HW5 multiple submission issues (12/04)
Read the Announcement in Canvas Announcements.
For some of you there was a second empty submission.
Your first submission was graded but for the second
0-point submission fudge points
were assigned there so that the grade for HW5 is visible under
grades. We think Pritam caught everybody who had this problem.
Beyond that let us know if there are still lingering issues.
Moreover the HW will become available in canvas starting noontime
today and be available for two weeks.
-
Subject 10 updated (12/04)
Update in Section C only.
-
HW5 solution key (12/01)
Available in Section C.
-
Seating arrangements for the final (11/23)
As of now(11/23@11:04) the Final Exam (Exam 3) is
scheduled to take place in KUPF 117. The seating
arrangements available in Section C reflect the
layout of this room.
-
'Due date' of HW5 and/or HW6 (11/17)
It was reported to me on Wed (11/16) that canvas might
not be generating a 'due date'. Do not pay attention to
canvas messaging. The due date of a HW is the AVAILABLE UNTIL
date of canvas which is the date (at 12PM noon time) listed
in the course calendar available in the syllabus.
HW 5 is thus due before noon of 12/01;
HW 6 is due before noon of 12/08.
And i am quoting the calendar of the syllabus.
-
Subject 8 updated and available in section C only(11/17)
I updated some slides of Subject 8 to bring the slides
inline with the discussion in class. These slides were
used in the examples i did in class at the end of
Subject 7 and also in the Subject 8 presentation.
The changes are as follows.
Everything else that will be covered in class has remained the same.
(Note that i deleted also slides not covered in class previously
appearing in the form of an appendix.)
- The old slides 22, 23 and 24 were replaced by the new slides
22, 23, 24, and 25 (referred to as Cases 1, 2, 3, and 4),
- The old slide 25 appears as (new) slide 26,
- The old slide 26 has been updated and appears as (new) slide 27,
- A new slide appears as (new) slide 28 (case 5),
- A new slide appears as (new) slide 30 (example in class),
- The old slides 31, 32, 33 have been merged int (new) slide 34,
- The old slide 34 has been cleaned into (new) slide 35.
-
HW5 (11/14)

-
Exam 2 (11/10)
Grading has been completed (22:12@11/10). Grades in canvas. Stats and
Midterm class performance in Section C.
Preliminary Exam 2 grading would be completed today.

The graded Exam 2 would be made available in canvas (for canvas exam takers)
tomorrow and would be available for 3 weeks (see item below about the extended
availability). Statistics for the exam are

Midterm class performance based on HW1-HW4 and Exam1-2 would be posted in Section
C of the course web-page.
Those of you who had a paper exam can pick it up from
my office during office hours. If you want to
find out the grade earlier send an email from you
NJIT sanctioned email address to the course email address
(and be careful with subject line content, see Appendix
of Syllabus), with the exam number, the last 4 digits of
your NJIT ID and first and last name.

A preliminary announcement was sent by email through Banner earlier
today 11/7 (before 9am).
Reminder 1,2: In two weeks time. It will cover Subjects 3,4,5 and 6.
It also draws from SA 3,4,5 and 6 and HW2 and HW3.
The exam rules have been posted in Section C of the course web-page.
They are the same as those used in Exam 1 minor the name of the
exam and number of questions.

starting at 9am today.
-
HW3 (10/28)

-
Exam 1 grading (10/17)(10/15)
Grades will be posted in Canvas Monday morning.
The exam itself would then be available starting at 15:00 (MON)
for two weeks. A solution key would also become available in
Section C of CWP along with exam statistics.
All aforementioned tasks have been completed as of 10/17@10:01.
-
HW2 grading (10/11)
HW2 has been graded and grades are available in canvas.
The homework will be released for a period of two weeks starting
at 2:20pm today.
-
Exam 1 notice (10/11)(10/7)
The Exam1 link has been published in Canvas. The exam is neither available
nor doable before 1pm tomorrow Wed 10/12.
Exam 1 is scheduled for this coming Wed 10/12. Start time is 1pm,
the class's start time. End time is 75min after you start the Exam in
canvas; the exam however will cease to be available at 2:20pm, the
end time for the class. Material to be examined is mapped to Subject
0,1, and 2 and thus Chapters 1 and 2 of the designated textbook.
This includes HW1, HW2 and also SA0, SA1, and SA2. Material from
Subject 3 will not be asked unless it was introduced earlier in
Subject 2 (Chapter 2) or Subject 1 (Chapter 1).
-
HW2 solution key (10/6)
It has been uploaded in Section C of the CWP.
-
Exam 1 preparatory (10/3)
Seating arrangements are in Section C. Next Monday 10/10 in the
first five minutes of the class you are expected to get seated
according to the seating arrangements for the Wed exam. Bring also
your device to verify that everything works fine with the room.
A practice exam named PracticeExam has been published and you can take
it for fun during class but spend no more than 30s of your time on it:-)
There are two funny OS questions to answer. But the exam is locked with
a password so watch out for a rectangle on the whiteboard and its case
sensitive contents.
For the exam day bring a pen or pencil for two reasons:
(a) if somethings goes wrong with tech you will be given a paper exam,
and
(b) you need to sign a signup list in the line indicate by your exam number.
DO NOT PUT the SIGNUP LIST ON TOP OF YOUR LAPTOP: you may accidentally SUBMIT YOUR EXAM!
-
Subject 3 minor revision (10/6) (10/5)
Today (10/6) I added some material in the Appendix (Unix/Linux
commands) and also updated the Example on Unix fork. The
most uptodate version is the one indicated as R2. Thus the
following text has mentioned in class yesterday has been superseded.
In the Canvas version and the identical version of Section C
somewhere between slides 60 and 61 there is a white page that
seems to be an error page. That empty white page has been
removed in revision R1 of Subject 3. Beyond that all the remaining
slides so far have been left intact. So if you do not bother with
that empty of content page you may still use the prior version.
If it causes problems,
you have the updated version without the empty page.
-
Subject 2 revised (9/28)
A revision of Subject 2 has been posted in Section C of the course web-page.
The previous version is also available. Note that canvas because
of sync issues stores only the previous (old) version.
The changes, as of now, are on slides 33, 37, 39, 50 and 51 (incorporates
item shown below). They explicitly highlight the difference between
the example on slide 33 (arrival time for B is 20s) and
slides 37 and 50 (arrival time for B is 0s).
-
Typo Subject 2 (9/26)
Slide 51 bottom red line should say Possibility 2.
-
Exam 1 Preparatory (9/28)
Exam 1 is scheduled in two weeks from today. The seating
arrangements have been posted in Section C of the course web-page.
Review them and try to see if there is any problem with them for
you (eg a new chair in CULM has been broken). The Monday before the
Wednesday exam I will ask all of you to get seated in the room according
to the seating arrangements. In the meantime you can memorize the last
four digits of your NJIT ID, and read the instructions of Exam 1 also
posted in Section C of the course web-page.
-
HW1 grading (9/23)
HW1 has been graded; its solution key is available in Section C
of the CWP. HW1 grades are available in Canvas/Grades. The homework
would become available starting noon time today for two weeks; record
it for archival purposes during that time. After that time frame it
will become permanently unavailable.
-
Typo Subject 1 (9/19)
Slide 74 CPU utilization should be 3/9 i.e. 33% rather than the
indicated 4/9.
-
Verification of Presence completed (9/19@10:35)
See also another item below.
-
HW1 (9/17)
There might a couple of references to 'Document 0'. This is Document 1,
aka the syllabus and in particular its appendix. However for references to
VPN and / or SSH go to Section B of the course web-page and read the document
related to Nix connectivity.
-
Verification of Presence (9/19@10:35,9/16@08:56)
The verification of presence cycle before the Sunday deadline
has been completed. As i mentioned in class your verification
in Banner is a YES if you have submitted already the VoP or a
NO otherwise. Submissions between now and Sunday noon will be
reviewed on Monday morning.
-
HW1, SA0, SA1 are active in canvas
Note that SA0 and SA1 are not for course credit, but HW1 is.
Due dates are the availability UNTIL dates of canvas;
for a HW it is also shown
in the calendar (page 3 of Document 1, the course syllabus).
The moment a SA ceases to be available you won't have access to
it throught the semester. Plan accordingly (see appendix of syllabus).
-
Verification of Presence (9/14@10:57,9/12@9:48,9/9@9:18,9/8@09:07)
All of you who have submitted VoP have been verified in Banner.
Be reminded that it will be available through noon time this coming
Sunday. Starting Friday, students who have not verified will have in
Banner a NO until that NO becomes a YES.
-
Fall 2022 page (8/22,8/25)
Section B of Course Web Page (CWP) is being constructed.
Canvas would be released by end of the week.
By now it contains the syllabus (Document 1) without its Appendix.
This is the document deposited to NJIT and is public information.
Note that credentials for Section C are
available on page 5 of Document 1 (Syllabus) that has been
released through Canvas Announcements.
By now (8/25) canvas is open and available from the instructor point
of view. NJIT might release it to students just before the start of the
semester or a week before.
