Past Announcements for Spring 2022

• HW 5 grading Canvas has misbehaved re HW5. You might got an impression that the homework has been graded. A homework's grading is complete when two conditions are both satisfied at the same time: (a) grades are visible in canvas, (b) feedback and correct answers are available and visible in Canvas for a two week period starting the moment grading is complete.
• HW 5 solution key Available in section C. Note HW6 is due before noon next week (Thu 4/21).
• (04/04) Exam 2 All info re Exam 2 has been made available in canvas and the course web-page section C. Midterm class performance has been available since March 30 in Canvas Announcements along with exam 2 statistics.
• (03/25) Midterm class performance guidance As soon as Exam 2 is graded next week, a midterm class performance guidance will be posted in Canvas Announcements. It will be based on the first four homeworks and the two exams.
• (03/23) HW4 solution key The solution key is currently available in Section C ahead of the exam on Monday.
• (03/18) Masks in classrooms (covid-19 related) I repeat a relevant sentence from the March 10, 2022 3:37pm email of the NJIT Pandemic recovery committee: "As of Monday, March 14, 2022, masks only will be required in indoor instructional spaces."
• (03/10) Exam 2 preparatory Exam 2 will cover Subjects 3,4,5, and 6 only. The slightly modified instructions are available in section C (number of questions might change though).
• (03/10) HW 3 solution key The solution key for HW3 has been posted.
• (03/18), (03/10),(03/09) Subject 7 typos (in section C only) Subject 7 had some typos on page 9 (of the PDF). I did not edit Subject 7. An updated version is available in Section C of the course web-page ONLY. The typos are available separately as a text file that appears ONLY in section C of the course web-page next to the old version of Subject 7. A message will be posted in Canvas Announcements as well. This notice replaces other notices in Canvas Announcements.
• (03/07) Hw4, SAs HW4 has been made available. Due date in the Syllabus (Document 1) but also as implied by the Available Until date of canvas and after the break. Some self-assessment availability was extended past the break.
• (02/28) Hw3 HW3 has been made available. Due date in the Syllabus (Document 1) but also as implied by the Available Until date of canvas.
• (02/28) (02/23) Exam1 and Exam 1 solution key The exam has been graded. It has been available for inspection (for two weeks) in canvas and grades are visible in canvas. Statistics in Canvas Announcements. The solution key is available through section C.2 of the course web-page.
• (02/18) HW2 solutions They were posted in Section C yesterday.
• (02/18) Exam 1 info The exam covers Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 of the designated textbook as they relate to Subjects 0,1, and 2 of the notes. Study all five. Indirectly it (exam) includes SA0, SA1, SA2, HW1, HW2 as well.
• (02/09) Exam 1, 2 seating arrangements and other info They have been posted in Canvas/Announcements. Section C0 of the course web-page has two links with information about the exams (Exam1 but also Exam2). Note that Exam 1 is schedule for Mon 2/21.
• (02/09) Tar command On a linux osl machine type man tar and information about the tar command is available. Likewise for zip or unzip, if needed. If you need more info, as instructed before first class, go to Section B.3 of the course web-page and pursue and read eg the first tutorial.
• (02/08) HW1 grading HW1 has been graded; grades are available in canvas. HW1 is available for two weeks for viewing; take screenshots but as soon as the two-week period expires it will be permanently UNavailable. A solution key has been posted separately in the course web-page, section C.
• (02/01) Canvas Messaging and Canvas Grades Note that Canvas messaging is NOT OFFICIAL NJIT mode of communication. It is limited and is not read regularly (around once a week). Do not use it unless you are comfortable receiving an answer after seven days. Canvas grades reported are for the last attempt only. If there was manual intervention and your grade is to be (or was) adjusted this will be reflected on a grade file maintained on AFS and outside of canvas. This is for a reason: canvas has sync issues.
• (01/26) Webex Recording The Webex recording of the most recent class is available in Canvas Modules.
• (01/31), (01/26),(01/25), (01/24) Verification of Presence All those of you who have done canvas quiz VoP have been verified as of now (9:56@1/31)(11:27@1/26)((13:32@1/25)10:06@1/24).
• (01/24) HW 1 available in canvas Given that HW 1 is the first homework, a reminder. HWs are due before 12PM Canvas time, and 12PM means twelve o'clock noon time NOT midnight on a Thursday that is not a class day. 3 attempts to submit within availability period, last attempt graded. If you do not submit, canvas autosubmits current work but autosubmit will work if your myUCID credentials do not expire. HW 1 is background and thus read Subject 0 and do self assessment 0 before you attempt it.
• (01/17) Before First Sync Online Class (Webex) Canvas Modules module BeforeFirstClass asks you to do certain things before the first class meeting. Moreover through Jan 30, all class meetings, but also office hour meetings will be held through Cisco Webex. Information about Webex meeting numbers has been made available in Canvas Announcements (one message for the Class meetings, one message for Office Hour meetings).
• (01/11) First Posting on Course Web-Page Canvas is active. A number of messages have been posted in Canvas/Announcements. Some of them contain attachments in the form of Document 0 (Instruction), Document 1 (Syllabus), Document 2, Document 3 and Document 4. Canvas Module BeforeFirstClass instructs you on what to do before first class. (There is a module AfterFirstClass.) Beyond first class read Document 0. Verification of Presence (VoP) is setup as a canvas quiz; read Document 0 and VoP instructions when it becomes available. The class lectures are split into modules known as Subjects. Every Subject has its Canvas/Module. Navigate around the three sections of this course web-page. This announcements is in Section A (Announcements) different from Canvas Announcements. Pay attention to Section B. If you need credentials to access Section C read page 1 of Document 0. For the period Jan 18-Jan 30 Canvas contains Webex info for the class and the Office hours. They have different Meeting Numbers and (potentially) passwords. If you have connectivity issues, Kaltura voiceovers have been made available in advance for the topics that will be covered. I expect to record the Webex session(s) and release them/it through module Subject 0 in canvas.
