11/28 HW5

11/20 Final Exam (Scheduled by the Registrar)
According to the Registrar (click on link below) the final is scheduled
for Friday 18 December starting at 8:30 in the morning. Location is CKB 341.
The exam duration is, per Syllabus, 2 hours (plus time to handout and collect the exam) in the
2:30 hour slot allocated for us. For other logistical information see the Syllabus (Handout 1).

11/10 Paper Presentation (HW7)
As of this writing, a list of the papers already scheduled for presentation can
be found through link L0 (Preliminary Schedule for Paper Presentations) in Section C.
There is room for one or two more presentations for the last day of classes.
If you plan to present a paper, let me know of it no later than Mon Nov 16. A schedule will
be posted by Mon Nov 23. With the exception of one or two more requests, all other new
requests will be scheduled for Nov 30.

11/04 Deadline Clarification
Homework 4 (as stated on its first page) has a new deadline which is Monday November 23, 2015.
That same date is also the new deadline for Homework 5 for those who asked for an extension
during class last Monday (Nov 2). The Homework 6 due date WILL not CHANGE. Nor will the Homework 7
date as the presentations will take place around the last two weeks of classes! For those
of you intereseted in doing Homework 7, be alerted about incoming deadlines as stated there!
Moreover the syllabus information is static and will not change nor reflect those aforementioned
changes: the HTML or the PDF document reflects what was posted or
handed out during the FIRST DAY of CLASSES.

11/02 HW4 Typo
Somewhere in the last problem there is a reference to an Add server; it is
supposed to be an ad server, as in advertising server.
Moreover for that problem the data (server configuration 64GiB,2x10TiB disks are 2015
configurations). The reference to Google@2003 refers to the type of servers used at that
time.

10/30 Exam 1
The midterm has been graded and will be returned on Mon 2 November.
Exam statistics are available in section C.3.
Moreover some Letter-grade guidance is provided based on HW1, HW2, HW3 and Exam1.
(The total number of points is 533 out of 1000.)
Note that if you did not turn in an assignment, you need to substitute the
missing points accordingly.

10/16 HW2 solutions
are available. Solutions for HW3 (not HW2) will be posted late Thursday October 22 so that you
have all three homework solutions before the weekend of the midterm exam.

10/15 Reading for Midterm of Oct 26
It will cover material from the book/subject note equivalent to the ones covered
in Subject 1,2, 3 and 4 (pages 1-10 inclusive, page 17-21 inclusive), HW1, HW2, HW3 and
their solutions. The paper on Google's search engine architecture is also included (part of
Subject 3).

A sign-up list will be circulated during the first class sometime after the break. It is imperative that
you complete it by writing last-name, first-name and sign it. It has to do with the following

NJIT requirement

08/25 Second Tuesday of the Semester (i.e Sep 8)
Note that according to the official calendar, NJIT follows a Monday schedule on the
second Tuesday of the semester. Thus the first day of this Monday class is Tuesday Sep 8 !
