Sep 4, 2009, noon Sep 8, 2009, 10am Dear all, The designated textbook for the course is Cormen et al, 2nd edition, McGraw-Hill [From now on CLRS2e] There seems to be available a [From now on CLRS3e] Cormen et al, 3rt edition, apparently published by MIT-Press and several of you might have ordered the latter rather than the former or planning to do so. I have already sent an inquiry to a McGraw-Hill rep, to clarify the case about the two editions and differences etc re contents. As of today (Tue Sep 8, 10am) I have not received any response. I did my own lookup and here are some observations. I emphasize these are observations rather than concrete evidence of what is stated below. - The structure of the chapters seems to have remained intact. Thus Chapter 7 is QuickSort in both editions. The only change is in Chapter 27 (that has been renamed and content changed from Sorting Networks) and/or Chapter 19 not covered in the course. - The page structure has changed. Thus what used to be on page 30, might now appear on page 35 or 55 or so. - Material has been added to Chapter 4 (Strassen method) in CLRS3e. This will be covered in the course out of chapter order Thus, even though [CRLS2e] IS THE DESIGNATED TEXTBOOK, there does not seem much harm done if one uses [CRLS3e]. Section titles seem to have remained the same. More Information will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
