4/27 and 3/29 Exam 4 reconfirmed The registrar has announced the Spring exam schedule. This CS 435 exam is scheduled for Wed May 11, 6pm @ regular classroom, as originally noted in Handout 1.

• 4/18 Ex3 (updated) The exam has been posted. Exam statistics are available. The exam will be handed back on 4/20, and solutions will be posted thereafter. Solutions are also available.
• 4/13 PA 3 All submissions have been acknoledged by the TA.
• 4/8 Reminders: PA3 and Ex3 A PA3 is due by this coming Wed Apr 13. Earlier submissions are always also welcome. In addition Ex3 is scheduled for the same day; Exam 3 is open-textbook.It roughly covers Chapter 6,7,8,9,11,12.1,16.3 and the introductions to chapters 12 and 16. Subject-wise these are Subjects 5(Huffman),6,7,8,9,10,and the first few pages of 11. Relevant problem sets include PS4,5,6,7(problems 1,2,4),8(problem 1).
• 4/6 Snow Schedule Wed May 4 Note that we will have a class on Wed May 4, at 6pm. This is to compensate for the missed Wed class that was cancelled due to snow. Given that there is an exam the following week, the class will be mainly a question and answer session in lieu of office hours that day. No new material introduced that day will be in the exam but review material might show up in the exam!
• 3/29 Exam 4 reconfirmed The registrar has announced the Spring exam schedule. This CS 435 exam is scheduled for Wed May 11, 6pm @ regular classroom, as originally noted in Handout 1.
• 3/29 PA 2 Grade-related emails have been sent out and grading has been completed (2:51pm, 3/29).
• 3/25 Section C uploads Subjects 10, 11 and 12 have been uploaded.
• 3/23 PA 2 All email submissions received have been acknowledged (Thu 10:50am)
• 3/23 Section C uploads PS 7 and Subjects 8 and 9 have been uploaded.
• 3/21 PA2 Clarification (Option 2) For the testing, use array of doubles. For example in section 2.2, paragraph 2.1 it describes an array of integers initialized to 1234.5. It means array of doubles. Same applies elsewhere in the remaining 3 testing instances.
• 3/20 Exam 1 grading Solutions for Exam 1 and the exam is available for download. Statistics are available in section C as well. Midterm class performance is also available based on Ex1 and Ex2; a contribution of programming assignments is not included however. The exam will be returned in class on Wed 3/23 after 7:30pm.
• 3/8 Exam 1 The midterm (Exam 2) will take place tomorrow Wed Mar 9. Read Handou 1 for more information. The exam is cumulative and open textbook as explained (including what open means) also in class. After the 90minute exam, the class will resume at 7:50pm.
• 3/2 PA1 grading The assignment was graded by the course assistant. It seems that grades reported may not be point totals but percentages (thus a 100 reported is in fact 100% of the assigned points, i.e. 134 points). You might be receiving a second email from the course email account today to clarify certain issues of your submission including clarificiation of the points received.
• 3/2 PS 6 delayed. The 6th problem set will be posted next week. Due to the class cancellation material related to it won't be covered this week.
2/23 PA1 All PA1 related email submissions received have been acknowledged (as of 00:01pm Thu Feb 24)

• 2/19 Exam 1 Exam 1 (two types were handed out on Wed) is available in Section C.4. Solutions for Exam 1 have also been posted. Statistics for Exam 1 are also available.
• 2/16 Subject upload Additional subjects have been uploaded in section C; they involve material that will be covered through the break and the week after.
2/13 Web-page Last night (2/12 7pm-midnight) access to the course web-page or portions of it could have been impossible. NJIT had a scheduled maintenance event announced at http://www.njit.edu/bulletin/sm.html . • 1/31 PA1/PA2 dates Due to the snow issues PA1 can be submitted no later than 2/23 (as opposed to 2/16 originally) and PA2 can be submitted no later than 3/23 (as opposed to 3/9 originally).
• 1/26 Snow ALERT ( 3:12pm) Tonight's class (Wed Jan 26, 2011, 6-9:05pm) has been officially canceled. NJIT has posted a notice about it. Check http://www.njit.edu for further information.
• 1/26 PS2 has been posted and is available through section C (protected area).
• 1/19 PA1-3 All three programming assignments for this course are now posted. Read Handout 2 for submission guidelines.
• 1/19 Subjects 1-4, Handouts 0-4. Subjects 1-4 have been uploaded in the (password) protected area of the web-page (section C). Handouts 0-4 are available in the public area (section B). (Other handouts have also been posted but are not currently relevant.)
• 1/19 First Day of classes. Tonight 1/19 is the first day of classes.
