(05/16) End of Semester Activity
I will have office hours this 5/17 Friday from 3-4pm for you to inspect the final exam paper.
Note that starting May 18 information on this web-page will get restructured and modified.
This link might also include office hour information for this coming Friday, if grading and a second
review of the final exams gets completed by then. (Office hours are going to take place late in mid afternoon,
then.)
-
(05/06) MP
Grades have been released in moodle in the feedback section along with short comments by the grader.
In a moodle email i didnot specify time for the grader's office
hours. It is 2-3pm both wed and thu.
GITC4324 is reached after you exit the twin elevators and move through the bulky security
doors on their right and then making a left turn to a long corridor: it's the first glass
walled room on the left. GITC 4324

The exam has been posted in Section C and solutions will become available later this month.

(03/12) Class and Recitation on Wed 3/13
The intent is to cover once the material related and necessary for the
completion of the third option of the MiniProject. (We have already covered
the first option in class.)
-
(03/01) Class - Recitations
The tentative schedule between now and the next three weeks after is
shown in the attached text file.
Class+Recitation Schedule .
-
(02/27) HW grading and moodle
The homeworks (and later the miniproject) are graded 0-15 or 0-240.
Moodle's scaling indication is irrelevant because i copy the grades to a text file
that contains all grades. Read also Moodle announcement/file.
-
(02/27) Exam 2 Preparatory
PS 5 with solutions has been posted in section C.
Exam 2 will cover material equivalent to Subjects 1,2,3,4.
Chapter-wise from the textbook this is Chap 1, 2, 3, 4 (but not 4.2 Strassen's, and
as far as 4.6 is concerned to the level done in class), 6, 9.1 (min, max, min/max), 10,
16.2 and 16.3 (Huffman and Greedy Algorithm discussion).
Much of the material of appendixes is covered also in Handout 3 or done in recitations.
All these chapters is the material outlined in Subjects 1-4 and roughly PS 1-5 (but some
material of PS5 related to quicksort is not in the exam).
-
(02/20) SNOW CLOSURE NOTICE 1
As of 10:52am (Wed 20 Feb) NJIT has announced the closure of Offices effective 1pm.
I interpret this that there would be NO RECITATION today and also NO CLASS later tonight.
The Provost may announce how the missed class and also last Week's Tue missed class would be
dealt with. If there is no hard decision, by next week's class you have got to decide possibly
between two options: 20 minutes extra time through
the end of the semester or a extra class on the SECOND READING DAY (a THURSDAY).
A PROVOST decision whenever it occurs might override the second alternatives.
HW3 due date is not going to change; BTW i am still in the office and will be round through the
end office hours.
-
(02/18) HW3 and PS4
The new homework, HW3, has been posted in moodle ahead of its originally
scheduled date (Wed 20 Feb). And so has PS4.
On the Wed recitation I will do a brief overview of Graph-related definitions.
This is primarily appendix B4 and B5 of the textbook (around page 1168 of CLRS3e),
plus some traversals and section 21.1 and 21.2 (around page 561 of CLRS3e).
-
(02/12) Note on Problem Sets
Some algebraic details might be missing from PS derivations. Usually this
involves steps that can be worked out and inferred from the information given
(think about the last inductive step during the recitation last week).
Page numbers to the textbook are usually double checked every time a new
edition is available; however errors might creep in and because of this i
try to avoid referring to page numbers any more.
In very few other cases you also need to think whether the conclusion drawn
is consistent with the statement. Thus if you are asked to show T(n) ≤ n
and the solution stops at n ≥ T(n) it is clear what the last missing step
(obviously) is. For example read PS3.Problem.4(b) and the last step of its
solution.
-
(02/12) Snow on Tue and Exam1 on Wed
An email through moodle was sent out informing you about the NJIT closure,
and the cancellation of office hours today, due to the NJIT closure.
As of now (Tue@11:20) NJIT will be open on Wed: so morning office hours
are expected to be held, the recitation will take place, and Exam1 will
be held as scheduled. For other details i refer to Monday's moodle email.
Note that all exams as cumulative; Exam1 covers
W1-W3, Exam2 W1-W6, Exam3 W1-W14.
-
(02/12)Week 4
As of now, PS1-PS3, HW1-HW2, and Subjects 1-5 have been posted in section C.
All homeworks have been graded with grades available in moodle.
-
(01/30) Moodle Submissions
Once again DO NOT FORGET TO PRESS THE SUBMIT BUTTON. Right
now i can view 4 drafts: may be they are
about to be submitted or left there unintentionally!
-
(01/30) Before 1st Recitation and Second Class
So far two Problem Sets with solutions have been posted in
Section C: PS1 (last week) and PS2 (this week).
Likewise, the second homework HW2 has just been posted.
Besides the Handouts (and the MiniProject) available
in section B, in section C the first five subject have
also been posted in advance.
-
(01/24) After 1st class
Verification of Presence: information collected in class
on Wed has been inserted into Banner.
If you registered for class late or did not show up in class, check the
Past Announcements link below that provides info about moodle,
and moodle document First435.txt that provides instructions on what
needs to be done to complete the Verification of Presence before next
class. There are few students that appear registered and did
not sign the verification of presence list. Moreover there is a student
who signed it and does not appear yet in the roster (initial DJ or JDJ).
Course Materials: As you may have noticed if you have
navigated section C, the first problem set PS1 has been posted there.
(I am not talking about the first homework, HW1 that was
posted in moodle.) Moreover Subjects 1-5 have also been posted.
-
(01/21) Room change
Whereas the recitation room KUPF 203 has remained the same, the Registrar's
office has changed our classroom during this past weekend from CKB 106 into
KUPF 207. A moodle announcement has already been posted there and an email has
been sent out to all enrolled students. Under course information this update
is shown by striking out the out-of-date info and replacing it with the new
one. Note that the pdf and html version of the syllabus WILL NOT be updated and
still show the prior information; likewise for the hard copy of the syllabus
to be received in class. For the sake of caution double check
the URL https://uisnetpr01.njit.edu/courseschedule/ before heading to
KUPF 207 on Wednesday; it might get changed again!.
-
(01/17) Preliminary
An email to all currently enrolled students has been sent out through moodle.
`Moodle already includes the MiniProject (also available through Section
B below but differently dated), and the first homework (HW1, a math review).
More will be announced in class. Section C material is being populated;
the password will be made available in the hardcopy version of Handout 0
attached to the syllabus (Handout 1) around 6pm on Jan 23 at CKB 106
(the designated classroom). As noted in moodle
(file First435.txt) there is no recitation on Jan 23.
