- FINAL EXAM INFORMATION.
The CS 610 final exam (that is, EXAM 3) is scheduled for
Tue 18 Dec 2018, commencing by 6:05pm at the regular classroom with
duration 120minutes (333 points). (As of Tue 10:11 am there has been no change.)

Seating arrangements are those used in Exam 1 and 2.
Logistics in Handout 1 (Syllabus). If the exam date changes for any
reason, this announcement will show this new information.
MAKE SURE THAT YOU SWITCH OFF ALL MOBILE DEVICES (CELL/MOBILE
PHONES,COMPUTERS, DIGITAL PORTABLE DEVICES) before entering the EXAM ROOM.
The material that will be covered includes (more details at
the beginning of every online available subject) Subject 1 all the way
through and including Subject 12 but not Subject 11 that was
not covered in class. For Subject 12 definitions re poly-time,
decision vs optimization problems, and inclusion to classes P or NP
may only be examined.
Text-book (GT) wise, this material is covered in Chapters 1-7 and
Chapter/Section 9.3, and the outline/conclusions of Chapter 13.
More detailed information is available on the front of each
Subject that shows the correspondence to the textbook.
- Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3(specifically 3.1,3.2,3.6,3.7),
Chapter 4,
- Chapter 5, Chapter 6
(but neither 6.3.2 nor the implementation related 6.4.3, 6.5),
- Chapter 7 (but neither 7.1.2 nor 7.3.3), Chapter 9 (only section 9.3),
Chapter 13 (only 13.1 and 13.2.1).

During the examination Week office hours will be Tue and Wed 4-5:30pm.
Thus there will be no Wed 10-11:30 office hours, they will be move to Wed afternoon; the
Tue office hours will not be touched. The Office Hour link reflects this as well.

(11/26, updated 11/27) Section C
PS 5 has been posted and so was PS 6. They discuss material to be covered
between Nov 27 and the end of the semester. All Subjects have been posted
and thus Section C is fully populated with course material.

Note that Tue (11/20) is a Thursday for NJIT and Wed (11/21) is a Friday.
No class and no office hours in either day.

HW 3 has been posted in moodle. Pay attention to the revised time of the deadline, 5:30pm
from 12:00pm (aka noon time). You have five and a half more hours!

(Tue 10/23) Midterm exam related
Midterm exam statistics are available in Section C.4.
Midterm class performance with some letter grade guidance is available in
Section C.1.a. It is based on the two class exams and the two homeworks.
(Boundaries may overlap.)
A second review of the exams will take place shortly. In class i will make
an announcement whether they will be returned tonight or next week.
The exam and some sample solutions will be posted later this week or next week.

(Tue 10/23) PS4 and Subject 8
A fourth problem set has been posted per syllabus; material related to it will
be covered in class starting next week. One more Subject, Subject 8 has been posted.

(Tue 10/9) Midterm exam next week (10/16): preparatory
Read Handout 1 (Syllabus) for logistics. It will cover the material from
Subjects 1 through and including Subject 5; from subject 5 only quicksort
related material will be examined. For Chapters from the designated textbook
use the info in Section C.6 and associated with each subject.

(Tue 10/9) Subject 4 updated (Huffman only)
The section of Subject 4 not covered in class yet related to Huffman
compression has been rewritten and an updated version posted.

HW 2 is in moodle. All Subjects 1-7 have been posted. PS3 is also available.

(Fri 9/28) Exam 1
The exam has been posted in Section C. Statistics are available.
Summary solutions will be posted next week; exams will be returned in class around 7:40pm.

(Wed 9/19) HW1 grading
HW1 has been graded; if you received a decimal point grade it has been rounded up.
Numeric grades are integers in this course. Moreover bear in mind that a 15/100 reported
in moodle is a good grade not a bad one:-) (Talked about it in class).

(Wed 9/19, Tue 9/18) Seating Arrangements for Exams and Exam Numbers
In preparation for the first exam scheduled for Sep 25, 2018, section C.1.b contains the associated
exam numbers for each one of you. The format of the file is : exam number, first name (incomplete,
including middle name or initials), and the last three digits of your NJIT ID.
Later this week tThe
seating arrangements will also be have also been posted within the same file.
AN XX indicates a single empty seat (either empty or broken or unavailable).
(I want to check for 'more' broken
tables and chairs after tonight's class).

(Tue 9/18) PS 2
The second practice PS has been posted in Section C. It covers material related
to classes through Oct 9, 2018.

(Tue 9/11) HW1
The first homework has been posted in moodle. It's due by noon time (12PM in
moodle) of 9/18.

(Wed 9/5) Verification of Presence
By now the verification of presence data have been inserted into Banner. Based on the signup
records there are four students in the Banner roster who did not sign the signup list.
There is one student who is in the signup list but not in the Banner roster. I will check the
Banner roster again tomorrow Thursday; hopefully by then the synch issues would settle down.

(Tue 9/4) PrP.
PrP, also known as the Programming Project, is available in moodle and also through
section B of this web-page. Read however Handout 2 (Programming Guidelines) as well.
You may start working on the non-algorithmic part as soon as possible. Do so early so
that you do not waste time later.

(Tue 9/4) PS1.
Problem Set 1 (aka PS1) has been posted. Problem sets are for practice and solutions
are provided. They are available in the protected area of the course web-page that is
Section C. Full information to access it is available in Handout 0 to be handed out in
hard copy in class tonight. Note that three Homeworks will be handed out through moodle
and will be graded in moodle. This is ...home...work.
