12/19 Exam 3 inspection
You may inspect your final exam paper (Exam 3) between noon time
(aka 12 o'clock or 12:00) and 1pm (aka 13:00) tomorrow Friday Dec 20.
I will limit this inspection to 1min to 90sec per student.
So be prepared to have ready last name, exam number, and last four ID digits.
And BTW i hope that everybody would be graded by then.
Note that the marks would refer to a 1st pass grading.
(Things can change on a second pass, but usually it affects few
students and few points per exam.) After 1pm sharp i will be
grading another course and i will only entertain emails and my answers would be
"exam 3 grade is exam 2 + 25 pts or exam 1 * 2 - 50 pts".
More might follow after the weekend.

12/15 End of semester notice
Note that at some point around the end of this week the course
web-page will be cleaned up of some if not all pdf material and
will be retired. HTML material will be retrievable under the

12/13 PrP grading
Grades will be released in moodle around Tue even if first
round of grading could finish as early as the weekend.
We would rather do it in one shot to avoid mistakes and avoid
going back and forth. The grading takes more time for two
reasons: (a) volume of option submissions, (b) grader grading
another class well.
-
12/12 Office Hours Exam Week
There will be regular office hours during exam Week. However every student,
will be given a 10 minute period, so that all students have contact time
eventually. If there is no one else waiting, another 10 minute period will
be made available to the only student waiting, as needed.
Try to use the Tue office hours; on Wed night i have the 610 exam,
but Thu morning i have another exam.
Students from both classes might pop up on Wed.
Note also on Wed office hours will stop at 5:30pm sharp.
-
12/04 PrP
Do not email me zip or tar files. Submit them to moodle. If you make a mistake an
email to me will revert your submission to draft mode. I have done so twice already before
noon time.

The intent is to return it on Oct 30 in class; by that time midterm

the posting of Subjects. Check Section C regularly for updates in the
Subject section.
-
10/10 Midterm (i.e Exam 2)
Logistics as discussed in class and also in Handout 1. Check section C
for an update of the seating arrangements , as modified after exam 1.
The midterm will test material covered in subjects 1,2,3,4,5 and the corresponding
chapters of the designated required textbook (GT) as specified on the cover page of
every subject, as well as in Section C.6. Note that Huffman coding has NOT been covered
yet and thus is NOT in the exam.
Practice PSes include 1 and 2 but some problems
of PS 3 can also be used for practice using techniques currently available. Also HW1 and HW2.
Moreover, i have changed the order of coverage for certain topics this semester; therefore
do not draw conclusions from practice exams about what material will be tested or not.
Study all.

-
9/25 Moodle and HW grades
You might be able to see in moodle not only a HW grade but also a
moodle generated 'course total'. Ignore the latter 'course total'.
I never asked moodle to generate it, i don't know what
moodle is doing to derive it. Just use the nominal grade for a HW whose scale is
available in the syllabus.
-
9/18 PS2, Exam Seating Arrangements
The second Problem Set with solutions is available in Section C.
In addition, C.1.b indicates seating arrangements that will be utilized in all class exams.
For each one of the registered students a line indicates your exam number, some digits of your NJIT
ID (consecutive) and some characters of your first/given name (or what NJIT thinks it is). Find your
exam number and then locate your seating position.
-
9/10 HW1
The first homework has been posted in moodle; note however that moodle is misbehaving.
-
9/05 Verification of Presence
The verification of presence signup was inserted into Banner. Note that two names
in the signup list do not currently appear in Banner.

second link of Section B below. Everything else through the first link of Section B and this
included Handouts 0-4. The login and password information
of Section C will be made available in class in the hard copy of Handout 0; the online copy does
not contain password information. In the meantime the Subjects to be covered in
the first three to four weeks of classes have been posted and are readily available there.
Note that the first Problem Set (PS1) has been posted; problem sets are sets of problems with some
sample and possibly incomplete solutions offered for practice. They are not for credits.
Homeworks are for credit. The schedule for the homeworks (but also for problem sets) is in the
Syllabus (Handout 1).
